Brilliant!
I love Aveda. I have religiously gone there for my hair colour for over 9 years now, as their all natural dyes makes my hair look all natural brown! I already wrote about my husband's favourite Aveda product, the Control Paste, a while ago, but I thought I'd let all of you straight-hair-lovers know about ...

Back to work

Rituals
There are many rituals in the day of an average human being, and taking care of ourselves is certainly an important one! Dutch home and body cosmetics brand 'Rituals' strives to transform everyday routines into more meaningful rituals: feeling good about ourselves and caring about others and the environment. I very much like the Rituals products. They ...

Ikea hacking
We all love Ikea, don't we? It's pretty cool, modern and most of the things are practical and durable. But the planetary success of this furniture maker means that homes all over the world are filled with the same pieces. I don't mind so much if everyone else has the ivar bookcase, or the benno ...

In the US and other English speaking countries you had the "Breakfast Club". In France we had a movie called "La Boum", the ultimate 1980s teen movie. No-knead bread
A bit over two years ago there was a little article in the NY Times with a recipe for  'No-Knead Bread'.  I remember reading this article (I even watched the video), totally impressed with how easy it seemed and how yummy that bread looked. I scribbled down the recipe and threw it into my recipe ...

Just awful
As I'm sure many of you know by now, Australia has just experienced its worst natural disaster after ravaging bush fires killed hundreds of people and destroyed many more homes. I received an email yesterday from a woman in my mother's group who said that her brother had lost his home and all its contents, ...

One meatless day per week?
My husband is, if I can toot my own husband's horn for a minute, one of the most forward-thinking people I know. He has been on the environmentally conscious bandwagon since before it ever became the thing to do.  And, while he kills me sometimes with his turning off of every wall switch, electric appliance, ...

A little dirt can't hurt!
Having been raised on a farm surrounded by plants and animals, I'm pretty sure I ate my fair share of dirt, sand, and maybe even the occasional worm! (I remember my older cousins daring me to eat one!) While we were always told to wash our hands before meals, my four siblings and I grew ...

The bitter after-taste of Chinese pine nuts
It started yesterday. A strange, bitter taste in my mouth -- especially when I was eating something. My dinner, even my glass of wine tasted funny (what a waste)! I didn't think much of it at first; normally strange things like this just go away by itself. But this morning, my oatmeal tasted bitter, as did everything else I ...

A big bed
When I first got to know my husband, I was living in Delft (where I studied), in a tiny studio apartment. I loved this place -- it was my first little house completely for myself and I thought it was just perfect. It was so tiny that it would only fit a very small bed, about 90 cm (3 feet) ...

When I was home for the holidays last month, my sister (who is not even really a make-up expert herself) looked at my face and told me I needed to find a new make-up.  Really? I thought. Was I doing a bad job putting mine on? Was it really that obvious that I don't have ...

Hi guys! Here Bethie and I are showing you how to prepare a super easy dish that your family will love -- a video we bring to you in cooperation with Abel & Cole, deliverer of fabulous food boxes filled to the brim with organic freshness! Here's the list of ingredients: a royal 1 tbsp of olive oil 1 butternut squash 1 red onion 2 red peppers 2 garlic cloves 4 vine tomatoes 150g quinoa sea salt & freshly ground pepper 300 ml vegetable stock 2 tbsp red wine vinegar 25g raisins 80g black olives And for the garnish: a handful of chervil feta (optional) Directions: Peel your butternut squash. Cut in half and scoop out the seeds. Chop the flesh into 1cm chunks. Peel and cut the onion into thick slices. Cut the pepper in half and scoop out the seeds and white pith. Chop into bitesized pieces. Peel and thinly slice the garlic. Roughly chop the tomatoes. Rinse the quinoa under cold water to remove any bitterness. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large heavy based pan. Tip in all the veg and quinoa. Pour in the veg stock and the red wine vinegar. Add the raisins and the olives. Season with salt and pepper. Pop on a lid and cook for 30-40 mins until the squash is soft and the sauce thick. Stir every now and then during cooking. Scatter over the chervil (or flat leaf parsley leaves) and serve in warm bowls. Top with crumbled feta if you like! A super colourful, super easy and super delicious dish for taste buds of all ages! Bon appétit!
