The most beautiful wooden animals by T-Lab
My husband returned home from an overseas work trip with these beautiful treasures of wooden animals. They are aesthetically captivating, so very soft, smooth, light as a feather, and lovely-to-hold. You wouldn't even realise they were wood at first. Perfect for tiny hands, with such lovely undulating curves, and the most fragile little hand-painted lines ...

Tinker Toys, a decades old wooden toy with lasting appeal
I grew up with Tinker Toys, but probably wouldn't have thought to introduce them to my younger children (yet). However, Joseph found them while I was rummaging through a box of items in storage, and I am so happy he did because this has quickly grown into one of our favourite activities! Tinker Toys can ...

The Wobbel Board and fun wooden play tunnels
I'm a big fan of open-ended play and evergreen toys -- toys that our kids play with religiously, independently of their age. This year for Christmas, we've added a few toys that I feel belong to the list we created a while ago: both pretty, natural and great toys that our kids all love playing ...

ZooModern, sustainable and eco-friendly Wooden Creatures
Because of the amount of toys of all kinds on the market today it’s pretty hard to get excited over the new ones. I remember just eight years ago when I had my first daughter everything was different. The variety was a lot narrower. So what I try to do now is find and accept ...

Games are one of the best ways to put aside all the distractions of modern day life, and just have some fun together as a family... and perhaps even get a bit competitive! :) We have chosen these games because most of them can be played from three years old, which means everyone can join in and bond ...

The amazing Rose & Rex toy shop (at the LA ShopUp)!
We met the lovely Allie at our last ShopUp event in Brooklyn, NY and we fell head over heels in love with her beautiful toy shop Rose & Rex. The shop offers the most elegant toys, all carefully selected not only for their heirloom qualities and sustainable, toxic free materials, but mostly to promote imaginative play and encourage the development of skill building, ...

Eco-friendly wooden toys from Wooden Story
A few months ago, here in a cute shop in my little town, I discovered the beautiful, natural wooden blocks set by Polish company Wooden Story. These blocks, like all of the wooden toys by Wooden Story, are hand made in the Beskidy Mountains of Poland from environmentally sourced wood. Beeswax and botanical oils give ...

A DIY wooden warrior friend from Conscious Craft
Over the summer my children received this cool wooden ninja construction kit, available from one of my favourite toys & crafts shops, Conscious Craft. It was a curious little package -- a box full of wooden construction pieces, steel bolts, and allen keys. Thankfully a clear instruction leaflet was included, or otherwise we would have been lost. Because DIY kits ...

Lovely Kids, Barcelona
As we know well, not all shops were created equal, and what makes Lovely Kids special, apart from having a lovely selection of toys, is that they also do a lot of charity work, and donate many toys to kids hospitals. Lovely Kids have four shops in Barcelona, and each time we pass in front of one of them ...

New (to me!) toy: Tegu Magnetic Blocks
Admittedly, I've spent the past year (blissfully) in a bit of a dark hole when it comes to discovering new toys. During our travels, our kids have gotten used to playing with what they can find around them -- sticks, stones, ropes, etc. And to be honest, apart from the girls missing their tutus and ...

Tuesday tips: Open-ended play and evergreen toys
Today for Tuesday Tips I would like to talk about toys. The kind of toys that I prefer in our house are the basic, evergreen kind of toys. I like toys that are well made, with a simple concept, that can be used and combined in different ways or played with in different settings. Toys that ...

Kukkia is a toy brand from Japan, which in my opinion is one of the best in the children's market. Many of their toys are classic concepts (like building blocks, wooden cars or dominoes!) but ...
