The gift of a handwritten letter with Scribble and Daub
A couple of days ago, whilst on holiday from school, my youngest daughter heard the letterbox knock and ran to the door. She came through to me in the kitchen with a small handful of post. To my surprise there was an envelope, handwritten, which looked like a little note (and not a bill - ...

Heart Origami notepaper from Lollipop
As a young child, growing up in America, we would hand out Valentine cards to every child in our class. We used to create our own Valentine's Day letterboxes and tape them to our desks and everyone would go around sticking the Valentine cards into them. I remember taking home all of my Valentines cards ...

Getting organised with help from Lollipop
After a long summer holiday, I have come back to London to find piles and piles of unopened mail and unpaid bills on my desk. My to-do list is long (and growing daily!), and I'm struggling to get myself and the kids back onto a regular schedule. Waking up on Thursday morning for the first ...

Do you recognise this illustration? It was inspired by this photo which I posted a couple weeks ago! Chicago-based illustrator, Denise Holmes, liked the photo and thought it would make a cute drawing... and I know I'm biased (it's a photo of my daughter after all), but isn't it indeed SO cute?! Denise has a ...

Mother's Day cards you want to give... and receive
When I have time, I do enjoy making greeting cards. There’s something really gratifying about it. But, of course, I don’t always have time. So if I ever buy a card I always try to pick one that reflects something of the person I’m choosing for, and it has to be beautiful. Increasingly I also ...

Earlier this week, a successful beauty blogger in the Netherlands, Nikkie de Jager @nikkietutorials publicly announced that she is transgender. A very brave thing to do and was incredibly impressed by her story and the way she chose to share it. If you haven’t seen it yet, there is a lot to learn from Nikkie’s coming out video on youtube. It is an inspiring message from a strong roll model, addressing young people who feel insecure, misunderstood or simply not in the right place. It is about acceptance, respect, hearing and understanding each other, about writing your own story, about the power of being yourself — whoever you are and whatever you are. It is also about the importance of supportive parenting. Nikkie shares that she is intensely grateful for her mother, who always saw and heard, listened and understood, respected and supported her in her choices and in her transition. We have always tried to be straightforward in discussing sex and reproduction with our children, and open about the idea that heterosexuality is just one shade of a wider spectrum of diversity. Thanks for the new blog post @estherbabyccino ... what are your thoughts? Comment below and link is in bio. #babyccinokids #thursdaythoughts

If you’re looking for an idea to help children run off that pre-dinner energy, this is it... a winter scavenger hunt! The idea from our lovely Shannon @slcorlis is a pretty loose and flexible one: to walk around after dark and see how many winter and holiday things kids can spot either decorating homes and businesses or peeking through windows. Decorations are often left up until early January, so there’s still plenty of time to have a go at this before the end of the season. See her helpful how to on today’s blog. #babyccinokids #scavengerhunt #winteractivities
