Roasted Cauliflower and Cumin Soup -- topped with Za'atar
Since the beginning of the year I have been on a bit of a health kick!  Nothing too drastic though... I just wanted to see how different I would feel if I held back on bread, cheese and wine for a while. Hilariously enough, at first it mostly made my grumpy, but in the last ...

A bowl of warm, homemade soup is a bowl of happiness. It just feels good for the soul to have yummy and healthy soup simmering away. Especially if you are serving it to a family filled with colds or fighting flus! But really, there is never a reason to need soup, just because is reason ...

A healthy and hearty vegetable and bean soup
Wintery Fridays are lazy days for us. We spend the afternoon at the manege for horse riding lessons, then we stop at our local shop to pick up bread, cheese and dips. We put on our pyjamas, light a fire, and watch a film together (or recently, we have been following the Dutch edition of ...

A Bag Full of Goodness, and hearty soups
It's the last day of school for the children here in Amsterdam before the holidays! I just took them there, it was still dark, and so stormy and cold and wet. In two days it will be the shortest day of the year here in the Northern hemispheres, and then, we'll be counting down again ...

My Minestrone soup recipe
Minestrone soup is one of my favourite dishes for this time of year. It's not the fastest thing to make, as it involves lots of cutting, but I always make loads so I have enough to feed two families or I have plenty of leftover for another day. It's good to freeze portions as well! I ...

The Little Things... a Pumpkin Soup recipe
We had a huge autumn storm that raged over northern Europe earlier this week. Trees were falling over everywhere -- it was dangerous to be outside... but so nice and cosy to be inside! With autumn, and being cosy and warm in our minds, Ava and her little friends Juul and Kate helped me make ...

A simple, warming Pumpkin soup
After five years of living in France, I am still surprised how one can guess the season by the fruit and vegetables being sold at the market and the green grocers. Strawberries and asparagus announce the beginning of summer, cherries and green beans follow closely after. Plums mean that summer is nearing an end and ...

Turkish Bulgur and Red Lentil Soup
I discovered this recipe in The Guardian last winter and it has since become a favourite go-to recipe, both because it's delicious and because it's dead simple to make. I think I have forwarded it on to everyone in my family (many of whom are vegetarians) and have made it for several dinner parties (easiest ...

Cream of Courgette
I have just watched some excerpts of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, which made me race into my kitchen and cook some healthy food. Have you seen some it? It's pretty addictive and shocking at the same time. One of the healthy things I have been making a lot of recently are soups. My kids will ...

Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup
For those of you who are not familiar with Ellie Krieger, I would highly recommend any of her cookbooks -- specifically The Food You Crave.  All of her recipes are wholesome, easy to follow and many will appeal to picky eaters.  I have found a few of my all-star meal hits in here and although ...

Good soup
Last Saturday I felt that we all needed a super-healthy dinner, but since we'd had a late lunch it needed to be light, and since it was the weekend it had to be easy.  I sort of randomly started throwing vegetables in a Dutch oven, and it ended up a delicious thick vegetable soup that even my children found ...

Easy tomato soup - from the cupboard
This weekend we were staying in London with Courtney and her family. We met up with Michela and her family on Saturday, who also spent the Easter weekend in London!  After a fun day spent in Hampstead Heath and an enormous lunch at Kenwood House (both in people as in food), we weren't too inspired ...

Celeriac soup
Last week I walked into my neighbour's kitchen, and lucky me, he had just finished cooking a pot of celeriac soup that of course I had to try! It was very yummy, and seemed to be quick to make with readily available and cheap ingredients. After a lavish Dim Sum lunch this Saturday afternoon, I decided to ...

Soobie's squash bisque
When I was in the 2nd grade our teacher asked each of us to bring in our favorite family recipe for a class cookbook. You would think that a 7-year-old would choose something like apple pie or chocolate-chip cookies. My favorite meal? My grandma Soobie's delicious squash soup! Perfect for this time of year, and ...

Sage soup
Sage is a herb I love, but don't really use that much. Of course I need it in order to make the super-tasty pumpkin pasta invented by Courtney's husband, and of course I use it to make saltimbocca. I have also added sage to applesauce before (a great combination with pork), but that's about as far as my adventures with sage go... ...

Courgette soup
In summer, courgettes (or zucchinis for the Americans and Italians amongst us) are readily available and thankfully very cheap (am I the only one who finds grocery shopping so extremely expensive these days?). I love courgette soup and cook it a lot in the summer. Once, I had a bunch of dill I needed to ...
