Oliver Jeffers shares his Top Ten Favourite Children's Books
Who doesn't love Oliver Jeffers? Without a doubt, many of his own books would appear on other authors' top ten book lists. They would certainly make the cut on my list! His super charming children's books are big-time favourites in our house. 'How to Catch a Star' and 'Lost and Found' will forever remind me of ...

Copenhagen's Harbour Buses – Seeing the city from the water
When you're in Copenhagen, there's water, water, everywhere, and it follows that in this city, the connection to it is magnetic. Great efforts have been made to make the harbour clean enough to swim in, and there are bright orange ladders emerging from it everywhere, so that you can dive in where you like and ...

Skydebanehaven – A 70-year-old secret playground for Copenhagen's children
If Vesterbrogade feels busier than most other parts of the city, that's because it is – and it's not just a feeling, it's a fact: this is the most densely populated area in the (albeit small) country of Denmark. Its streets edge the main train station, Københavens Hovedbanegård (Copenhagen's Central Station); it's where its red ...

Leckerbaer Pastry Shop – A special sweet stop near Copenhagen's lakes
If a dream of a pastry shop dances around your head – the kind in which sugar and spice and everything nice is baked and shaped, whipped and whirled by hand into perfect sweet somethings – then on a quiet street running parallel to Copenhagen’s lakes, the dream is real. Leckerbaer, surely the world's most ...

Weekend Play – The 'Green Playground' at Øster Farimagsgades Skole
It's a fact little-known to Copenhagen's visitors that at weekends, the playgrounds of the city's public schools and børnehaver (pre-schools) are open for anyone to romp in. If the suns out (or if it's not, which in this Nordic city is a high possibility!) and the gates are open, they're yours for the taking. This ...

Mini Me – Copenhagen's coolest kicks for kids
If Copenhagen has a particular destination ‘high street’ – not so much high street stores as delis, flower shops, bakeries and independent bookstores all beautifully wrapped in a local neighbourhood vibe – then Gammel Kongevej in Frederiksberg is it. This could, to Copenhageners, seem a little strange – because Frederiksberg is actually a municipality all ...

VHH Foods -- an all-day eatery in Brooklyn
We returned to Brooklyn on Sunday after a week and a half away and faced sights familiar, I'm sure, to many families upon return from travel: an empty refrigerator, a mountain of luggage needing unpacking, and tired-looking faces all around. In the name of making sure everyone turned in for the night with full bellies ...

Start your week off with a bang! Make these energy balls on a Monday for some extra fuel and then continue to enjoy these snacks all week. 🤎 No-bake, sugar-free Coconut Oat Energy Balls : -6 pitted fresh medjool dates (not dried), cut up into smaller chunks -30 grams sunflower seeds -30 grams pumpkin seeds -25 grams desiccated coconut -10 grams date syrup -40 grams organic oats 🤎 First combine the sunflower and pumpkin seeds into the food processor. Then pulse it until they are nicely crushed up. Next add the medjool dates, oats, desiccated coconut and date syrup. Mix. Take a teaspoon of the mixture and roll into ball. Then roll the balls in extra desiccated coconut afterwards which makes them less sticky to eat! Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Enjoy! 🤎 @laraoflondon #babyccinoeats #babyccinokids

Eton Mess is a family favourite of @laraoflondon. In our house it is referred to as ‘Messy Mash’ and that is exactly what it is. A delicious, sweet, fruity bowl of soft and fluffy meringue bits with juicy berries and delectable whipped cream! We have taken this tradition, and given it a twist adding more berries. But the history of Eton Mess, named after the famous Eton Boarding School that many prime ministers and princes, kings, etc have attended, is that “the strawberry, meringue and cream pudding was dropped at an Eton v Harrow cricket match in the late 19th century. Perhaps it was a Pavlova style desert. Rather than waste the food, it was simply scooped up off the floor and served, smashed to bits, in individual bowls.” I love the tale of this story, and my kids love smashing the berries and meringue into bits to create this wonderfully sweet but not too saccharin dessert. It is also bake-free, takes only a few minutes to make on a day where you’d rather sit in the sun then be in the kitchen. Ingredients : Meringue (2 very large or 20 smaller ones — you can make them, or we enjoy cheating this step and buying delicious ones instead) Whipping Cream 1.5 punnet of strawberries Blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, optional so add to your liking! Vanilla Pod, sliced in half and seeds removed, or vanilla paste, or extract, to your liking. I prefer not to use the vanilla extract as it leaves a bit of an alcohol flavour. Steps for the mess : Rinse all of your fruit. Chop half the strawberries and put them in a blender or smash up. Pour the double cream/whipping cream into a large mixing bowl and add the vanilla. Then whip it up! Break up the meringues into about one-inch pieces, put them in the mixing bowl with the cream, add the smashed strawberries and fold the cream in around them to give a marbled effect. Place the mixture in serving dishes. Chop the rest of the strawberries and combine with the other berries. Put on top of your smashed mixture. You may want to pour a little extra cream on top, but I like the bright, uninterrupted colours of just the berries on the top. Enjoy immediately! #babyccinokids #babyccinoeats
