TUESDAY TIPS
Tuesday Tips: a pretty plaster for every little pain
Since having children I've developed a fun little interest: I pick up cool Band-Aids wherever I find them. Especially when I travel I tend to be on the lookout for new designs. It's a fun little present to bring back to the kids and they are always so happy with them! I like to keep them everywhere. In the kitchen drawer (mostly ...

Team Favourites: Seven Cures for Cold & Flu
There is never a good time to get sick, but germs and kids often go hand in hand. Since the season of colds and flus are upon us, we wanted to share our team favourites on how we kick colds and fight the flu. These are our family favourites, and I love how everyone in our ...

Organ donation and one mum's incredible story
Last month at our ShopUp event, I had the pleasure of meeting fellow London mum, Louise Hannon. We started talking about children and life in London, and she told me her incredible story about her son's illness, his life-threatening surgeries at Great Ormond Street Hospital and his heart transplant through organ donation. We spoke about organ ...

A Little About the Right Type of Sunscreen
Usually I write about cute clothes, darling shoes, best toys, I even throw in a few recipes and some fun DIYs here and there but today I’d like to talk about something a little more boring but far more important than all that – about choosing the right type of sunscreen. The sunny days that ...

Got to love eggs!
Do your kids love eggs so much too? Ava, our 2 year old, is especially a total egg addict -- she could eat 5 eggs a day if I let her! My mum used to say that eating more than 3 eggs a week was bad for your health, it would be bad for your ...

Toothbeary
Here in the UK we get free dental care when we are pregnant and for a year after the baby is born.  I knew when I was pregnant with my second child that there was something wrong with one of my teeth and I was right -- I needed a root-canal.  Scary!  It had to ...

11-13 weeks scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre
My first two babies were born in London.  Even though I had both of them through the National Health Service system, I went to the Fetal Medicine Centre (FMC), a private clinic on Harley Street in London, for the 11-13 week scans.  Reason is, the founder of the FMC is Professor Kypros Nicolaides, the world's ...

The science of shopping
I'm usually a fashion magazine reader, but lately I've been tempted (while stuck in line at the checkout) to grab the mags that promise easy weeknight dinners or dresses that make you look thinner, like plenty of hurried moms out there.  My latest purchase was the July issue of O Magazine, in which I've discovered ...

Bad Science
If you live in the UK and read the Guardian on Saturdays you may be acquainted with Ben Goldacre and his column. Ben is a young medical doctor trained in Oxford and London who has embarked on a mission to unveil the dodgy science behind some drug trials and health scares. Last year he published Bad ...

What to do?
I’ve got another question for you all seeing as you were so helpful last time. What do you do when your baby can’t shake a cough? Little C has had a cough now for quite a few weeks. It alternates from being dry and chesty to rattly and wheezy. I just spoke to my mum ...

More country differences: caring for the umbilical stump.
My #1 was born in London, and on discharge from the hospital I was told to bathe the baby regularly and that the stump would fall off pretty soon. That's it, simple and practical. Then the midwife who came to our home a couple of times checked on it. #2 was born last week in Milan, and stumps ...

Earlier this week, a successful beauty blogger in the Netherlands, Nikkie de Jager @nikkietutorials publicly announced that she is transgender. A very brave thing to do and was incredibly impressed by her story and the way she chose to share it. If you haven’t seen it yet, there is a lot to learn from Nikkie’s coming out video on youtube. It is an inspiring message from a strong roll model, addressing young people who feel insecure, misunderstood or simply not in the right place. It is about acceptance, respect, hearing and understanding each other, about writing your own story, about the power of being yourself — whoever you are and whatever you are. It is also about the importance of supportive parenting. Nikkie shares that she is intensely grateful for her mother, who always saw and heard, listened and understood, respected and supported her in her choices and in her transition. We have always tried to be straightforward in discussing sex and reproduction with our children, and open about the idea that heterosexuality is just one shade of a wider spectrum of diversity. Thanks for the new blog post @estherbabyccino ... what are your thoughts? Comment below and link is in bio. #babyccinokids #thursdaythoughts

If you’re looking for an idea to help children run off that pre-dinner energy, this is it... a winter scavenger hunt! The idea from our lovely Shannon @slcorlis is a pretty loose and flexible one: to walk around after dark and see how many winter and holiday things kids can spot either decorating homes and businesses or peeking through windows. Decorations are often left up until early January, so there’s still plenty of time to have a go at this before the end of the season. See her helpful how to on today’s blog. #babyccinokids #scavengerhunt #winteractivities
