Louise Misha's new season collection
You've heard it before how much I love the beautiful, bohemian-style clothes from Louise Misha. Regular readers of this blog will know it's a brand I have loved for years. (I have a grey jumper from last year's A/W collection, and EVERY time I wear it, I get asked where it is from! It's one ...

A pretty, poetic new collection from Louise Misha
Louise Misha needs no introduction here. We've shared our love for this brand a few times over the years (see last year's post and notice how much Marlow has grown! Oh my gosh!). Louise Misha has become well-known and loved for its pretty, bohemian-style clothing for girls and women, and it is now stocked in more ...

A book series my 9-year-old daughter loves
Ivy received a copy of Withering-by-Sea by Judith Rossell in her Christmas stocking this year, and she loved it so much, we had to quickly run back to the bookstore to buy the next two books in the series. She tells me these are her new favourite books, so I just knew I had to share ...

A vibrant new Autumn/Winter collection at Louise Misha
Okay, okay... I will admit straight away that these photos are not very Autumn/Wintery with the beach as our backdrop, and with barefoot children as my little models.  : )  But, this is exactly what I love about the Louise Misha brand: the pieces are beautiful and cheerful, despite the season. This is the new ...

'Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls' -- an inspiring book for girls (and boys!)
I was chatting to a friend over the weekend and she told me she recently read an interesting article about raising girls. The article pointed out that when a young girl is showing signs of being pioneering or dominant or even simply independent, she is called 'bossy', whereas when a boy acts in the same ...

Thursday Thoughts: Teaching our Girls to be Gutsy
Earlier this week, my mom forwarded me this opinion article from the NY times, 'Why Do We Teach Girls That It's Cute To Be Scared?'. The author, Caroline Paul, is a San Francisco firefighter, and she writes about how we condition our girls to be scared, while boys are encouraged to be brave and resilient. ...

Tuesday Tips: Girls and Math & Science
Since my last post about multiplication tables I have been thinking about how similar one of my daughters is to me when it comes to learning maths and science. The year of positive change! A belated Happy New Year to all of you!! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays, and the first weeks of 2020 have been good for you. For Courtney, the year has had a rocky start. The devastating fires in Australia have been keeping all of our minds occupied. Thankfully rain is on its way, and hopefully the fires will be under control soon. But the destruction has taken place and the wake-up call has been heard and noted. We have to act now! Let's make 2020 the year of positive change. Simple changes can be made on a personal level. Maybe, after reading this newsletter, we can all take a bit of time to act or reflect? Here are some ideas you can start thinking about: 1. Let's try to drive less! Walking or using a bike are better for our health as well as our planet. Taking public transport is fun! Or drive electric. Fly less: have your meetings virtual and go somewhere local for your holidays. Or take the train, instead of the plane! 2. Eat local and seasonal. Become a flexitarian (or even better, a vegetarian). Eating less animal proteins has a direct impact on your carbon footprint. 3. Repair, re-use, recycle and refuse. If you can, shop responsibly (ethical, green and sustainable). Respect what you already have, mend, pass on to others. 4. Replace fossil fuels (oil, carbon, natural gas) with renewable energy sources. Switch to a 'green' energy provider, perhaps install solar panels. Be more energy efficient. Turn the heating down a notch, wear woollens and blankets to stay warm. 5. If you have funds, invest them wisely. (Not in companies related to the fossil fuel industry, for example, but in 'clean' organisations instead.) When it's time to vote, vote! And vote wisely. Don't feel that one person or one family can not make a difference. Social scientists have discovered that if we see our peers take environmental action, we adjust our beliefs and actions accordingly. So it's worth the effort! Thanks as always for following and reading. xxx Esther
