When to consider speech therapy and other types of educational support
About a year ago my youngest daughter, who was holding a book, turned to me and said, "Mommy, it is really interesting -- I can see this letter in my head, but I cannot manage to write it on a piece of paper". I was intrigued, and like a good French person, went straight to ...

A weekend at the Opal Coast in France
We've discovered that the Côte d'Opale (Opal Coast) in the upper North-west corner of France is aptly located for a Babyccino Kids meet-up -- it's only a few hours drive from Paris and Antwerp (where my dad lives), and it's also just a 20 minute drive from Calais, where the channel tunnel connects France directly to the UK. The importance of handwriting
There are a lot of things I like about my kids schooling in France --  there are also a lot of things I criticise. Earlier this week, a successful beauty blogger in the Netherlands, Nikkie de Jager @nikkietutorials publicly announced that she is transgender. A very brave thing to do and was incredibly impressed by her story and the way she chose to share it. If you haven’t seen it yet, there is a lot to learn from Nikkie’s coming out video on youtube. It is an inspiring message from a strong roll model, addressing young people who feel insecure, misunderstood or simply not in the right place. It is about acceptance, respect, hearing and understanding each other, about writing your own story, about the power of being yourself — whoever you are and whatever you are. It is also about the importance of supportive parenting. Nikkie shares that she is intensely grateful for her mother, who always saw and heard, listened and understood, respected and supported her in her choices and in her transition. We have always tried to be straightforward in discussing sex and reproduction with our children, and open about the idea that heterosexuality is just one shade of a wider spectrum of diversity. Thanks for the new blog post @estherbabyccino ... what are your thoughts? Comment below and link is in bio. #babyccinokids #thursdaythoughts

If you’re looking for an idea to help children run off that pre-dinner energy, this is it... a winter scavenger hunt! The idea from our lovely Shannon @slcorlis is a pretty loose and flexible one: to walk around after dark and see how many winter and holiday things kids can spot either decorating homes and businesses or peeking through windows. Decorations are often left up until early January, so there’s still plenty of time to have a go at this before the end of the season. See her helpful how to on today’s blog. #babyccinokids #scavengerhunt #winteractivities
