Blackberry season. Time for pie!
And just like that... it's blackberry season! In just the past week the blackberries on the island have ripened... and they are abundant! We've been picking blackberries daily and eating them for every meal.  Yummm. Last week the girls and I decided to make a blackberry pie. To be honest, Ivy decided she wanted to make a pie ...

Apple Eve Pudding
Now I know the French are known for their fancy pastries and cakes, but the English are hard to beat at simple, wholesome, easy-to-make desserts. One of my favourites is Apple Eve Pudding, a variation on Apple Crumble. Instead of crumble you add a sponge batter on top of the apples. I love the way ...

Simple Stone Fruit Tart
I stumbled upon this image on Pinterest a couple days ago and knew immediately what I wanted to do with the bowl full of peaches and nectarines on my kitchen counter and the ready-rolled puff pastry in my freezer. So easy! I quickly wrote down the  simple recipe and decided to make it that evening with ...

Homemade yoghurt
Have you ever thought about making your own yoghurt? We've been doing it since we visited friends in France a few years ago and they served cute little jars for dessert filled with their own homemade yoghurt. And it was the best yoghurt we ever had! We purchased a 'yoghurt maker' (similar to these, UK/US), ...

The very best brownies
I recently discovered Smitten Kitchen's famous brownie recipe... and it has literally become a family obsession. I've made them four times in the past couple weeks... enough that I think my daughter could probably make them on her own now. I even made them once for my husband to take to work with him, and ...

Blackberry foraging and Compote making
Every year we spend a few weeks in the countryside in our family house in France, and there's always one major task at hand: blackberry picking! This year was a particularly good blackberry year, so we all got to work (kids included) and I was able to make a few batches of jam and compote. ...

Moelleux au chocolat
This photo of a chocolate fondant was taped to Emilie's fridge when I visited her in Paris last month, and when I walked into her kitchen the drool nearly spilled from my mouth.  Doesn't this look like the yummiest thing ever? Don't you just want to take a spoon and dip it into that melted ...

Panna Cotta
Panna Cotta is one of those easy, but elegant desserts I like to make when I have guests over.  For some reason, I usually don't think of it as a summer dessert, but my mother-in-law served it a few days ago and it was fresh, light, and super summery after all.  I owe credit for ...

Feel the cakelove
Have you noticed how cupcakes are the trendy dessert of the moment? Bakeries are popping up all over the US and abroad, it seems.  I first heard about DC-based Cakelove from a cooking show on tv, and was intrigued by the lawyer-turned-chef Warren Brown– someone who was truly following their bliss to open a bakery.  ...

Mmmmmont d’Or
The first time I ate it I was attending a houseparty somewhere on the Lower East Side in New York City, probably about 5 years ago. Someone ignorant (could have easily been me) had opened the circle of bark around the cheese and thus, the hotter the party seemed to get, the more the cheese ...

Summer holidays! If you follow Esther and Emilie on Instagram, you’ll have seen a few happy photos of their two families together in France! It’s a sweet summertime tradition for them. Being on the opposite side of the world, I will admit it makes me feel extra far away and sad to miss out on these wonderful get-togethers. The kids are all growing up so quickly — I couldn’t believe how tall and grown-up Emilie’s girls have gotten. And speaking of tall — I’m pretty sure Esther now has at least two kids who are taller than I am. Like an old granny would do, I’m pretty sure I’d squeeze their cheeks and tell them all I remember holding them in my arms when they were just one day old!!! Anyway, we’re taking a couple of weeks off from blogging to allow Esther, Emilie and all of our wonderful contributors some time to enjoy a bit of summer holiday family time. We hope you’re doing the same! See you back here in a couple of weeks. Courtney xx @estherbabyccino @emiliebabyccino @courtneyadamo #babyccinokids

Fancy an easy-peasy, delicious, light, fudgy chocolate sponge cake? Easy enough to rustle up with a 3-year-old’s help too. It’s gluten-free for starters, vegan, and nut free too. 🤎 You won’t need any fancy kit, the preparation time is around 10 minutes, there’s no whipping, melting, or soaking overnight, and you won’t need to source any wacky ingredients from the health food shop.
