Sweet and sugar-free Valentine's party
I love to create small and sweet celebrations out of holidays, and Valentine's Day is no exception! While I was heavily pregnant last year, I wanted to do a fuss-free Valentine's Day 'baking' activity with my daughter, but without the dreaded sugar crash afterwards. So we made watermelon hearts, which are bake free, and only sweet ...

Craft Tutorial: Peg dolls with hair!
I’m so glad we picked so many treasures in the forest throughout the autumn because there’s not much more outside to see (or pick) as everything here in the southern part of Germany is now covered in snow! Do you also do that? Pick different types and shapes of sticks, leaves, acorn hats, cones etc. ...

Watercolour flowers
Last week Ava and I created invites for her birthday party -- a last minute plan, so we had to work with the materials we had in the house. Since we had come up with a flower theme, we watercolored little flowers on white cards, and it was such a sweet activity with such cute results that ...

DIY: Seashell Mobiles
Happy Monday everyone! We're back to regular posting this week. Thank you for all your sweet comments last week and for bearing with us while we enjoyed a blogging break. The kids and I spent the week (hardly getting out of pyjamas!) in our little beach house on Bainbridge Island. We went for long beach walks, ...

Shoe Lacing, Montessori-Style
I am a big fan of Montessori methods of education and I’m still mourning over Tila’s Montessori daycare she went to in France. There are none here in Germany in the area we live at the moment so I try to implement as many Montessori principles at home as I can. I especially love their ...

Simple leaf print-splash art
Did you ever splash drops of ink on paper using a toothbrush? My mum taught me this technique when I was a child and suddenly, when Ava and I were picking up pretty leaves the other day, I remembered how fun it was. All you need is an old toothbrush and some coloured ink. Dip ...

The Little Things... A Doll Hospital!
For this post in the The Little Things series, we made something I think every little boy or girl will love: a doll hospital! This is such a fun project to make, and it's really quite simple. Also, most of the materials we've used are recycled! A trip to the local greengrocer provided us with the (future) hospital ...

Sticker crafting with Pipsticks
My friend, Maureen, invited us over to her house last week for a sticker craft playdate for the little ones (and homemade soup for the mums! Yummm).  It was such a fun and inspiring morning in her gorgeous home, and Marlow loved making (and wearing) her sticker crown. What a sweet activity. Maureen is the founder of ...

La Mercerie Parisienne
One of my favourite shops in Paris is not a shoe shop or a fancy food shop (though there are many). It is actually a beautiful, little haberdashery shop in the Marais: L'Entrée des Fournisseurs is full of ribbons, buttons, fabrics and wool, just like in the good old days. It also stocks some of my ...

Have you ever heard of a knitting loom? Well, I had not, at least until recently, when I had the chance to catch up with Erika from Miko Design. She told me how she discovered knitting again, thanks to these nifty little things. They are sold at HEMA over here in France and in the Netherlands. ...

Spring is here! Say it with pillows.
Because yesterday was the (official) first day of spring, I finally finished a little project I have been working on... Pillows! I used mixed techniques to put words on them -- embroidery, appliqué, and painting with textile paint. I especially enjoyed the embroidery work -- it's been a long time since I did embroidery, and ...

Stitch 'n kids: felt hand puppets
A few weeks ago I made these owl hand puppets with my kids, which was such a fun project that I thought I should share. First, we designed the owl on paper. Then, we cut out the different shapes of felt, first the shape of the body (twice), then the details like the eyes, the ...

My kids and I have had such fun with the Rosie Flo Colouring Pool Party! The coolest thing about social media, namely Instagram, is how many cool things you discover via the people you follow. The other day Pim and I made a stamp together. He made the design, and I helped him cut it out! Making a stamp is not very difficult. First, you need an eraser. (It can be a cheap one, I like to use these from HEMA.) Mark the outline of the eraser on a piece of paper, ...

Welcome to our newest #babyccinokidsboutiques on the block! Eco conscious clothing and decor for adventurous kids … Bella + Phoenix! Brand @bella_and_phoenix is created by Debbie Turrell a Sussex based graphic designer/illustrator and mum. From a young age both her children showed an avid interest in the natural world. From rock pooling to finding mini beasties in the back garden, everything would be inspected (not dissected!) and then avidly talked about. Next would come the barrage of questions! It inspired her to come up with the 'Tee of Knowledge’. The clothing is organized into cute themes and children will definitely feel inspired when they are dressed and ready for an afternoon spent amongst nature! Being passionate about ethical production, all the clothing is handprinted to order in Bella and Phoenix Sussex studio on organic cottons, using eco friendly inks. The packaging is recycled and 100% biodegradable too. We hope your little explorers will be inspired!
