Shopping for a toddler boy
Wilkie, who turns two next week !!, is officially potty-trained. Hooray! It gives me such pleasure knowing I will never have to do that again! Five babies down.... no more to go...! Haha. (Of course there are plenty more parenting challenges to face, but potty-training thankfully isn't one of them.) Anyway, I had forgotten what ...

Favourite clothing brands for tween and teen boys
Let's be honest. Shopping for boys is more difficult than shopping for girls.  And shopping for tween and teen boys is even more difficult than shopping for younger boys, so the challenge becomes amplified. Not only are there fewer brand options for tween sizes, but, at that age, kids start to have their own say, ...

A stick-themed 9th birthday party
Pim turned 9 in February, but something very sad happened in our close surroundings around that time, which made it difficult for me to get myself in the mood for organising a party back then. I kept postponing it, until suddenly I realised the end of the school year was near. Oops! So on the last day ...

Boys swim shorts from Beanie & Bear
I discovered the vibrant Beanie & Bear swimwear range at the Dot to Dot tradeshow last spring, and while I don't normally go for bright neon colours, I immediately fell for these cute swim shorts for my boys. The tailored style and short cut makes them a cross between the tighter-fitting swimsuits they usually wear, and ...

Bellerose, a favourite label for boys!
Shopping for boys is definitely more challenging than shopping for girls, or at least I find it slightly less exciting. For one, there is less variety in the types of clothing for boys (no adorable rompers or pretty dresses), but I also find it trickier to find simple, timeless pieces without the stereotypical 'boyish' texts and colours. For my ...

Birthday gifts for a 10-year-old boy
I still can't believe my baby is TEN!! It's been an emotional year as I anticipated his birthday and reflected on the past decade, but then when the day finally arrived, it was happy and joyous (and I didn't even shed a tear)! We celebrated our big boy with pancakes for breakfast, an afternoon spent at ...

Father and son swimwear from Tom & Teddy
Tracking down nice-looking swimwear for boys is surprisingly more difficult than you would think! Especially rash tops -- they always seem to have some crazy text or logos and end up clashing with the swim trunks my boys wear. Which is why I was excited when Tom & Teddy announced their new collection of simple rash tops (without any text!) to ...

Tuesday Tips: Girls and Math & Science
Since my last post about multiplication tables I have been thinking about how similar one of my daughters is to me when it comes to learning maths and science. A Spy Birthday Party for an 8-Year-Old

Tuesday Tips: Raising sensitive boys
My father, one of ten children, was raised on a farm in rural America. His parents were Dutch immigrants who had lived through World War II and they were strict, no-nonsense types. They believed in hard work, discipline and obedience.  As a result, my father's sensitive side was mostly ironed out of him at a young ...

Start your week off with a bang! Make these energy balls on a Monday for some extra fuel and then continue to enjoy these snacks all week. 🤎 No-bake, sugar-free Coconut Oat Energy Balls : -6 pitted fresh medjool dates (not dried), cut up into smaller chunks -30 grams sunflower seeds -30 grams pumpkin seeds -25 grams desiccated coconut -10 grams date syrup -40 grams organic oats 🤎 First combine the sunflower and pumpkin seeds into the food processor. Then pulse it until they are nicely crushed up. Next add the medjool dates, oats, desiccated coconut and date syrup. Mix. Take a teaspoon of the mixture and roll into ball. Then roll the balls in extra desiccated coconut afterwards which makes them less sticky to eat! Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Enjoy! 🤎 @laraoflondon #babyccinoeats #babyccinokids

Willow Crossley is a writer and a floral stylist. She is the mother of three gorgeous boys and is based in the beautiful counrtyside of Oxfordshire. Willow’s latest book, The Wild Journal, is utterly divine and I can’t really think of a better treat in this current climate, than reading this book. Written over a period of a year and split into the four seasons, the concept of Willow’s book is simple; a guide on how to nurture yourself through nature. Eton Mess is a family favourite of @laraoflondon. In our house it is referred to as ‘Messy Mash’ and that is exactly what it is. A delicious, sweet, fruity bowl of soft and fluffy meringue bits with juicy berries and delectable whipped cream! We have taken this tradition, and given it a twist adding more berries. But the history of Eton Mess, named after the famous Eton Boarding School that many prime ministers and princes, kings, etc have attended, is that “the strawberry, meringue and cream pudding was dropped at an Eton v Harrow cricket match in the late 19th century. Perhaps it was a Pavlova style desert. Rather than waste the food, it was simply scooped up off the floor and served, smashed to bits, in individual bowls.” I love the tale of this story, and my kids love smashing the berries and meringue into bits to create this wonderfully sweet but not too saccharin dessert. It is also bake-free, takes only a few minutes to make on a day where you’d rather sit in the sun then be in the kitchen. Ingredients : Meringue (2 very large or 20 smaller ones — you can make them, or we enjoy cheating this step and buying delicious ones instead) Whipping Cream 1.5 punnet of strawberries Blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, optional so add to your liking! Vanilla Pod, sliced in half and seeds removed, or vanilla paste, or extract, to your liking. I prefer not to use the vanilla extract as it leaves a bit of an alcohol flavour. Steps for the mess : Rinse all of your fruit. Chop half the strawberries and put them in a blender or smash up. Pour the double cream/whipping cream into a large mixing bowl and add the vanilla. Then whip it up! Break up the meringues into about one-inch pieces, put them in the mixing bowl with the cream, add the smashed strawberries and fold the cream in around them to give a marbled effect. Place the mixture in serving dishes. Chop the rest of the strawberries and combine with the other berries. Put on top of your smashed mixture. You may want to pour a little extra cream on top, but I like the bright, uninterrupted colours of just the berries on the top. Enjoy immediately! #babyccinokids #babyccinoeats
