THURSDAY THOUGHTS
Some thoughts about stretch marks and accepting our 'imperfections'
Pregnancy-related stretch marks are a genetic reality in my family. My mom, who birthed five babies, has them, as did her mother, and I knew the chances were good that I would get them too. When I was pregnant with my first baby I remember using all of the creams and oils on the market ...

Thursday Thoughts: To shave or not to shave
Okay ladies, a funny thing happened to me this week. I posted this photo (above) on my Instagram feed to feature a watch brand I like and to talk about the two opposing sides of my personal style, as reflected by my wrists. But, the comments and conversation quickly became focused on my arm hair!!! Some people told me "it looked gross," while others suggested I ...

Kiehl's Overnight Hydrating Masque
So here is light and fluffy post for your Friday. Esther and I hung out last weekend as she was in town for the trade shows. We spent a lot of time giggling and being a bit ridiculous, and this year we decided that, instead of spending our night in the bars of my neighbourhood, we would ...

My favourite sunsreen -- Aesop's Protective Body Lotion SPF50
I have applied sunscreen every day for the past five months. It's become a normal part of my morning routine: brush teeth, wash face, apply sunscreen. The sun is so harsh here in New Zealand that sunscreen is necessary even on cloudy days! I picked up this Aesop protective body lotion last summer before leaving ...

A quick morning make-up solution
With four children to get ready in the morning for their school and daycare, lunch boxes to prepare, gym bags to collect, my mornings are a bit hectic to say the very least.  Most of the time my husband drops the kids off to school on his way to work (all of them piled up on ...

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery
When it comes to the world of beauty products, I've been living on planet Mars. If you read my beauty uniform post on A Cup of Jo, you'll already know that most of the beauty products I use are ones that I've used since I was a teenager. I hardly ever try anything new. So ...

Klorane Dry Shampoo
I have been travelling a lot lately in planes, trains and automobiles... which has been a lot of fun, but the one thing that has suffered a little bit is my hair. Waking up in the early hours and getting my girls ready and out of the door to catch a train does not leave ...

Aesop
The Australian skincare company, Aesop, seems to be taking over the world! There are now six Aesop stores in London, not counting the numerous stockists across the city... and I was just in Paris a few weeks ago and couldn't help but stumble into several of their gorgeous stores. I am certainly hooked, and so ...

Fabric scraps as hair ribbons
I remember, years ago before I had a daughter, Esther's daughter Sara wore her hair in little buns on the side of her head. I remember telling Esther how cute I thought it was, and I recall Esther telling me that it was the quickest hair style to do.  Flash forward three years and here ...

Little Bu Non-Toxic Nail Polish
I'm hoping I have a few years yet before my daughter is interested in nail polish (out of curiosity, when does this happen?!)... but when the time comes, I'll be buying her the Little BU non-toxic polishes. The nail polishes are water-based, odour-less, quick drying, completely non-toxic and free of all the nasty chemicals normally ...

MAC Skin Finish
I need to preference this post: I am not big on products anymore. There was a time during which I had the false hope that a new pot of eye shadow would revolutionize my look -- it never did. But sometimes I do discover something that makes my life a little easier. I am always tying ...

Liz Earle, natural skincare
I've been on the look-out for skincare that works for a while now. I have my requirements, of course: it should be gentle, natural, affordable and smell really good. It should also be simple and straightforward -- what I don't like are those brands which offer a million products to be used on top of ...

Safe to be polished, with Priti Princess
Things change when you become a mum.  You start behaving differently -- you suddenly do things that you've previously thought you'd never do.  Like changing a nappy in public. Or buying loads of pink for your little girl.  Or letting them sleep in your bed. Or letting them use make-up. I think if you had told ...

What I can't leave the house without ...
Anyone who knows me will find it somewhat hysterical that I would be writing about my favourite 'beauty' product.  I'm one of those girls who considers mascara and lip-balm "dolling myself up".  I'm pretty useless in that whole arena and since having kids even worse. The only 'area' that I did try and spend a ...

Aesop -- an Aussie classic!
I thrash my hands.  Hot water, cleaning products, using my fingernails as tools... you name it... most mothers will understand! As a result, my hands are often flaky and dry -- not unlike sandpaper. Tantrum-free hair products
It's funny the things your kids notice. I recently tried out the new Tantrum range of hair products, and instantly my boys pointed out the 'yummy' smell of the bubbles! (I was more attracted to the 'paraben and allergen-free' qualities, but of course kids know nothing about that!) Tantrum is a children's hair salon here ...

Baby hair gel
Way back before I had children, I used to love making homemade beauty products -- I gave all my friends handmade lip balm for Christmas one year, and I'd make facial masks and other potions for myself.  Now that time is of the essence and we are rushing to get out the door, I don't ...

I received a couple samples of the new Jergens Naturals range of lotions recently, and despite my lack of enthusiasm and (dare I admit my beauty snobbery?!) initial skepticism, I am loving it! When I first arrived in Paris (it now feels like ages ago), it was just starting to get warm, and all the ladies were swapping their boots for sandals and flip-flops. To blend in as a real Parisienne, I decided that I was going to do the same. But first and foremost I needed to ...

Autumn Equinox — a note from Esther... “I was talking to Lara earlier today, and she was reminding me of the start of Autumn happening today. Autumn! Today, the bright daylight hours and the dark nightly hours are of equal length. From now on, the days will get shorter, the nights will get longer… until the longest night, Winter Solstice (taking place on December 21st) will mark the beginning of the Winter season. Today is Autumn Equinox: the night and the day are in perfect balance. It marks the moment of the sun entering Libra (my star sign!), bringing harmony and stability, and which is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty. All good things, and definitely things we need in these uncertain, difficult and turbulent times. Autumn is when the air starts to feel crisper and smell muddier, when the colours of nature are intensifying before they change colour, when the light is low and magical, when the days get wetter and the weather gets windier. It is the time to harvest apples and nuts and pumpkins, to make pies and soups and stews and to cosy up the house with rugs, pillows and blankets. Fall is so cosy! To celebrate this First Day of Autumn, I thought it would be nice to make a list of all the little things, family traditions and crafts we love doing in fall. Most we have posted about before, but there are some new ideas and things I want to try as well. Going through old posts and getting this list together has been so inspiring — yes, we are entering the darker and colder months, but there is so much to do and make, and many of these activities are super simple and made with whatever nature supplies us with. Fall truly is fabulous!” xx Esther Enjoy @estherbabyccino fifteen favourite fall activities to get inspired, link in bio. #babyccinokids #babyccinotips #autumnequinox @maudfontein 🧡
