Wilkie's favourite books -- a round-up of the best books for toddlers
We have already shared our team's favourite baby & toddler books, which is a wonderful round-up of books for the 0-3 age, but as I was looking at Wilkie's little box of books in his bedroom, I realised there are some favourites in there that haven't been mentioned here before.  Some of them have been ...

Getting to know your baby. Did you know your newborn immediately?
I was recently browsing my Instagram and something interesting struck me. On social media I have seen several mothers say (write), that after the birth of their babies they feel 'they have known their newborns forever'. I personally have never felt that way. I have given birth to five babies over the past thirteen years, and ...

The Micro Beach Wagon -- an excellent companion, even in the city
One of the pesky little things of living in this beautiful city of mine is transport. All my friends who live outside of Paris own a car. The simplicity of jumping into a car and driving to a shop, loading the groceries or bigger items from the trolly to the boot of the car and ...

Teething -- with two sweet brands
We have a drooly, constantly sticking his hands (plural) in his mouth, six-month-old babe. He's been teething for half of his life now, and still no teeth! Poor bubba. The teething began one day after we flew overseas for the start of our summer holiday. (What timing!) But there was no denying it, teeth are on the way and we needed to comfort him ...

Thursday Thoughts: How old were you when you started your family?
Living in London, I have always felt like a young mum. I was 24 when Easton was born. I was the youngest mum in my antenatal class and the youngest of all my new mum friends. Even at 32, when Marlow was born, I remained one of the youngest mums in any of the ...

Willaby Clothing
I have recently been introduced to the beautiful Willaby brand and I've become so enamoured with every single piece in the new spring collection. Isn't it all just so gorgeous? The pieces are 'modern yet classic, understated yet out of the ordinary'. A perfect description. The brand was started by designer, Kim Woods, who still runs every aspect of Willaby, ...

Picking daisies (and floral bloomers!)
I recently signed up for a photography course with Lesley Colvin in an attempt to really learn how to use my camera. For years now I've taken decent photos in auto-mode (all thanks to a good camera and some good lenses), but lately I've become frustrated with the photos I'm getting and I decided I ...

Tuesday Tips: Transitioning from one to two...
We've had lots of requests from readers to share tips on dealing with the transition from one child to two (or from two to three, etc.). It's a tricky one for me to answer because it was 8 years ago that my second was born and my memory is foggy, but I wanted to raise the ...

Tuesday Tips: The Dummy Fairy
The 'Dummy Fairy' came to our house last week and flew off with all of Marlow's dummies! And just like that our baby became a 'big girl' (no more bottles, no more nappies, no more dummies!). Marlow went to bed that evening telling all of us that she's a big girl now -- she hopped into ...

Tuesday Tips: Raising Happy Sleepers
As I've written before, it always surprises me how much pressure our society puts on baby sleep. It seems that from the moment babies are born, the questions inevitably roll in from friends, family, co-workers, and even strangers in the supermarket: 'how is he sleeping?', 'how long is he sleeping between feeds?' and even 'is he ...

Decorations that don’t waste too many precious cooking ingredients... yes please! We love this simple salt dough recipe!🧂 1 cup flour 1/2 cup salt 1/2 cup water 1. Preheat the oven to 120 °C and line baking tray with baking paper. 2. Mix flour and salt in the bowl then gradually add water, stirring until combined. 3. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface, roll out until about 7mm thick and transfer to baking tray. 4. Then all you need is an egg-shaped cookie cutter, which is easy to find at this time of the year. Cut them out and make a hole in each about a centimeter from the top edge. Bake on 120C for about three hours turning them once after about 2 hours. 5. Now paint both sides with one color or each in different and wait to dry completely. 6. After about an hour you can draw your favorite designs on the eggs (again, one or both sides). 7. Leave for about 12 hours or overnight to dry and finish them with glossy varnish. (Clear nail polish works nicely.) 8. Now just string the twine or a fishing line through holes and you’re done! 9. Place on branches or hang around the home. 10. Enjoy! 🥚🧂 More Easter ideas in our bio! #babyccinokids #babyccinocrafts #eastercraftsforkids #saltdoughornaments

How can we manage worrying information around our children? Today’s blog post looks at these ‘unprecedented’ times. With news reels, articles, conversations, not only between adults but children too that are hard to ignore. It is impossible to shield our children from the worries and events of the wider world, and important to share some truths with them about what is happening. We are, as Maria Montessori put it, “Citizens of the World” and our children will be the ones to inherit it. Being in lockdown, (hello to everyone at home!) can make for a really good environment to nurture discussion, as we have time to drip feed explanations, observe reactions and unpick tricky questions. There are some simple ways we can help stem and support the flow of information, manage anxieties and make sense of the world around us all. So today we have tips in our bio, so click on the link and share with loved ones. And please stay safe. #babyccinokids #explainingcoronavirustokids @themontessoristudio

We’ve had a full-on week with home learning (as you all have I imagine) and managed to survive (just) the week in the house together. But this morning I felt we all needed a little time out from the work and we did maths through baking by making these delicious cookies. They were out of the oven just in time for a mid-morning brain break. I think we’ve tried every recipe for chocolate chip cookies but this is our favourite and today I thought I’d share it with you. I must warn you, they are not the healthiest, but during these times I think we are all in need of a little treat. The recipe for these mouth-watering (and gluten free) Peanut Butter Cookies : -1 cup of peanut butter -1 cup of brown sugar -1 egg In a large bowl, mix the ingredients together until you have a smooth, consistent dough.
