Last Minute Christmas Craft -- wall panels
These wall panels were quickly made with my kids -- just using pieces of an old sheet, some fabric scraps and Fabric Mod Podge. I did the cutting for my 3-year old, but my 5-year-old was able to do everything herself! After drying we glued the sheet around a piece of cardboard and voila, some stylish ...

A Christmas Pink Martini
My husband and I have uber-opposite music tastes -- it is one of the subjects we get really annoyed with one another about.  However for many years now, one of the Albums we both agree is brilliant is Pink Martini's Sympathique. If you don't know Pink Martini -- they are a Portland-based group who do ...

Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree
We are all officially in the holiday spirit in my house. Our tree is up, stockings are hung, Christmas music is always on, and every night we read a Christmas book before bed. Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree is one of our favourites -- it's a Christmas classic (first published in 1963) and is such a ...

Christmas Stars
Thankfully my 6-year-old niece and God-daughter, Helene, is into all things crafty.  Therefore she is my outlet for all the exciting 'make & do' gifts I find and fall in love with, as my own children are a bit too young for most of them. As she is German (and my Deutsche is not too ...

The Night Before Christmas
We have a few different versions of this Christmas poem, but Gyo Fujikawa's The Night Before Christmas is our favourite! Her illustrations are so beautiful and in a way that appeals to adults and kids alike. Fujikawa, also known for her version of Mother Goose, creates the most lovely, vintage-like illustrations. We especially love the ...

Christmas book Advent calendar
I love Christmas! But my problem is I start getting that Bing Crosby feeling around mid-October and it is no good for my kids’ excitement levels. So, as of last year, there is now a self-imposed rule: no Christmassiness (that includes Gingerbread Lattes, Mince Pies and said Bing) until 1st December. Well Bah Humbug! As ...

Beach chic at Christmas
Living only a five minute walk from world-famous Bondi Beach presents some interesting decorating dilemmas at Christmas time. I haven’t worried so much about what trinkets and festive fare to indulge in during previous years because I’ve always been too busy celebrating Sydney-style at friends’ places, parties and picnics – it is the summer social ...

Panettone, not just for Christmas!
Although it is now the symbol of Christmas lunch and dinners all over Italy, Panettone is the ultimate Milanese Christmas dessert. Its origin is the subject of many legends, but what is certain is that it dates back to the XV century. It is shaped like a cylinder with a rounded top, it can be ...

Souvenirs from Copenhagen – vintage Danish blue plates
When we first moved to Copenhagen, I noticed many of our Danish friends had cool, eclectic crockery collections that were mixed and matched. There were handmade one-offs from stores like Stilleben mixed with simple white dishes from chains like Søstrene Grene, and there were vintage plates from loppemarkeder (flea markets). I noticed that in among the latter, ...

On the largely residential street of Ryesgade, is a little peach-pink shop of treasures, where you never quite know what you’re going to get. Hi guys! Here Bethie and I are showing you how to prepare a super easy dish that your family will love -- a video we bring to you in cooperation with Abel & Cole, deliverer of fabulous food boxes filled to the brim with organic freshness! Here's the list of ingredients: a royal 1 tbsp of olive oil 1 butternut squash 1 red onion 2 red peppers 2 garlic cloves 4 vine tomatoes 150g quinoa sea salt & freshly ground pepper 300 ml vegetable stock 2 tbsp red wine vinegar 25g raisins 80g black olives And for the garnish: a handful of chervil feta (optional) Directions: Peel your butternut squash. Cut in half and scoop out the seeds. Chop the flesh into 1cm chunks. Peel and cut the onion into thick slices. Cut the pepper in half and scoop out the seeds and white pith. Chop into bitesized pieces. Peel and thinly slice the garlic. Roughly chop the tomatoes. Rinse the quinoa under cold water to remove any bitterness. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large heavy based pan. Tip in all the veg and quinoa. Pour in the veg stock and the red wine vinegar. Add the raisins and the olives. Season with salt and pepper. Pop on a lid and cook for 30-40 mins until the squash is soft and the sauce thick. Stir every now and then during cooking. Scatter over the chervil (or flat leaf parsley leaves) and serve in warm bowls. Top with crumbled feta if you like! A super colourful, super easy and super delicious dish for taste buds of all ages! Bon appétit!
