Weekend Getaway: Sydney
After spending eight weeks in New Zealand, five of which were spent campervanning from one remote corner of the country to the next, we were all very excited to arrive in hip & happening Sydney to soak up some city time (and sleep in proper beds!).  Because we have visited Sydney a few times before, we didn't feel ...

Lego Love
We have a bit of a joke in my house that my husband enjoys playing with the Lego more than our child. He makes all sorts of weird and wonderful creations – from spinning tops to cars and temples. So we both had a good laugh when I found this cool book on Lego – ...

Bellachara, a blowhole and a big beach
When we planned our trip to Australia we purposely scheduled our campervan trip in the middle to allow for some down-time after the camping. We thought we would return to Sydney to spend three more weeks in the city, but unfortunately we weren't very organized and by the time we set out to book accommodation ...

Cool things to do in Sydney... with kids!
It was lovely to meet Courtney recently as she began her big adventure along Australia's east coast. It's funny the feelings it stirred in me. I really wanted her to have a good time in Sydney. And I wanted her to love my neighbourhood of Bondi as much as I do. So I sent her off ...

House swapping
Over the summer break I spent a bit of time decorating my home. (No, the pic above is not of my place -- but somewhere I might now be able to stay.) One of the reasons was that I wanted to take some photos so I could list it on a house swap website. We ...

A busy week in Sydney
We've just spent the past week in sunny Sydney, and it just flew by! It was difficult to try to see and do all the things on our list whilst trying to live the beachy, laid-back lifestyle that Sydney is known for.  But we did our best. Sydney is amazing in this way -- it's ...

Babes in the shade
A big issue for parents in Australia is protecting your child from fierce UV rays, especially in summer when the sun burns skin all-too-quickly. Many children (and adults) wear "rashies" at the beach. These tops provide high UV protection and saves you having to reapply sunscreen every couple of hours. The only problem is that they don't ...

An odd obsession
I'm obsessed with bunk beds. There. I've said it. I don't know why. It's a strange obsession to have, especially as I only have one child. I think it's because I live in an apartment and if I was to have more than one child then they'd probably have to have bunks. Perhaps it's also ...

Stylish boys' rooms
I’m like hawk-eye now when it comes to boys’ rooms. Since I had a little boy, I’m always on the lookout for spaces that are sophisticated but with a masculine edge – and yet still playful. Perhaps it’s a big ask, but I’m slowly getting a good clippings file. While this room, showcasing a new ...

Shop til you drop
This morning I went to Magnolia Square's first shopping event in Sydney. The market has been running since 2005 in Melbourne with such great success that the founder, Nic MacIsaac, has branched out and taken the "pop-up-shop concept" north. While some of the brands were familiar to me from attending trade fairs, it's such a ...

Sydney's little star
The synchronicity of life never ceases to amaze me. One day I’m at work chatting to our style director and he’s telling me about a cool little kid he’s just seen in the lift. Then a couple of days later I have a quick fix of The Sartorialist and low-and-behold there he is! It turns ...

Big on style
Okay, so this is perhaps a little extravagant, but chairs are my weakness (they’re like the shoes of the interior world – great accessories that complete a look). This Spiced Apple and Honey Cake is one of our favourites and the girls love getting involved and crowning it with the apple slices and drizzling over the honey. The recipe is really quick and versatile and you can use whichever flour you have to hand — plain will give you a lighter bouncy sponge, spelt a drier denser texture but a wonderful rich flavour and ground almonds will give you a dense but super moist cake. Today’s new post from Lara “Seek is the one and only app that our (young) children use. It started in lockdown over the Spring, as things sprung to life, and our children would ask us ‘what’s that?’ So my husband found the answer, which was for all of us to learn more from the world of amazing digital technology by using a free app (and find out more about the amazing world!). We think it is so outstanding actually and have told so many friends and family members to use it too, because it teaches them about the world and nature! I should quickly add that this is not a sponsored post! It is just a great tip I wanted to share.” And we love this thought... “You don’t have to travel far to find weird and beautiful wildlife. Your garden, local park, street tree, window box or the verge alongside a local footpath are rich ecosystems filled with species… you’ll be able to identify any living thing in your patch – plants, flowers, insects, fungi, birds and animals. It’s like having a naturalist in your pocket! When you ID a species you’ll be able to find out all about it, and see how common or rare it is for your area and the time of year.” More about the app in our bio link. But tell us, are you using any interesting educational apps for nature or science? ps And stay tuned for more about her holiday on a lighthouse island in @laraoflondon ‘s post next week! #babyccinokids #babyccinotips #babyccinotravels #seek

Autumn Equinox — a note from Esther... “I was talking to Lara earlier today, and she was reminding me of the start of Autumn happening today. Autumn! Today, the bright daylight hours and the dark nightly hours are of equal length. From now on, the days will get shorter, the nights will get longer… until the longest night, Winter Solstice (taking place on December 21st) will mark the beginning of the Winter season. Today is Autumn Equinox: the night and the day are in perfect balance. It marks the moment of the sun entering Libra (my star sign!), bringing harmony and stability, and which is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty. All good things, and definitely things we need in these uncertain, difficult and turbulent times. Autumn is when the air starts to feel crisper and smell muddier, when the colours of nature are intensifying before they change colour, when the light is low and magical, when the days get wetter and the weather gets windier. It is the time to harvest apples and nuts and pumpkins, to make pies and soups and stews and to cosy up the house with rugs, pillows and blankets. Fall is so cosy! To celebrate this First Day of Autumn, I thought it would be nice to make a list of all the little things, family traditions and crafts we love doing in fall. Most we have posted about before, but there are some new ideas and things I want to try as well. Going through old posts and getting this list together has been so inspiring — yes, we are entering the darker and colder months, but there is so much to do and make, and many of these activities are super simple and made with whatever nature supplies us with. Fall truly is fabulous!” xx Esther Enjoy @estherbabyccino fifteen favourite fall activities to get inspired, link in bio. #babyccinokids #babyccinotips #autumnequinox @maudfontein 🧡
