BEAUTY & CARE
Skincare and make-up products I like to use (and are quick to apply!)
I am by no means a make-up expert. I don't use a lot of it (in fact, I just spent six weeks in a campervan without ANY make-up!). My childhood was quite, well, childish, and I didn't use mascara until I was 18 and left the house to go and study in Delft. There, during ...

Natural pregnancy skincare by Eve & Rose
My belly is big and round now and I just feel the skin stretching around it. So tight! Also, the itching is terrible, and comes in waves. My legs, my arms, my back (especially there where I can not reach)... All so itchy! It's part of the pregnancy deal, of course, and thankfully temporary (almost ...

Make Your Own Sunscreen at Home!
I was playing with an idea of making a sunscreen at home for a while because I’m very picky when it comes to them: they first need to be mineral without nanoparticles and can’t have any perfumes and/or nasty chemicals in them -- I even wrote a post a while ago about it. And when I ...

Schmidt's: A natural deodorant for the entire family
If you have a little girl around the age of nine, there's a big fat chance that one day you will stand next to her and realise that it's not your own armpits you're smelling, but those of your daughter. Suddenly, that innocent baby of yours will have a first wave of hormones going through ...

Natural Mascara from Gaya: a must-have!
I (used to) love make-up. That was pre-kids when time was something I still had, but now to be honest I’m too lazy for it. I only use mascara when I don’t forget and a concealer when the nights are too rough. Another thing is that I'm really complicated when it comes to skincare products. ...

My favourite cruelty-free skincare products
My daughter has started developing her activist streak and it is really making me think about my shopping habits and attitudes. I absolutely agree with her that testing on animals is not a great thing, but have to admit I can easily forget to think about it when out shopping. But seeing the earnestness in ...

Dr Jackson's Natural Skin Care
When the lovely Luisa from Niko and Ava told me about Dr Jackson at our LA ShopUp and described him (and I quote) as the "Indiana Jones" of skincare, I was more than intrigued. She very kindly sent me some of Dr Jackson's products to test and now I am not intrigued anymore. I am addicted! ...

My favourite sunsreen -- Aesop's Protective Body Lotion SPF50
I have applied sunscreen every day for the past five months. It's become a normal part of my morning routine: brush teeth, wash face, apply sunscreen. The sun is so harsh here in New Zealand that sunscreen is necessary even on cloudy days! I picked up this Aesop protective body lotion last summer before leaving ...

In my hand luggage
I have been on the road so often lately that my suitcase is just sitting open on the floor and gets emptied and refilled again on a regular basis. I also never have the patience for waiting for suitcases at airports, so I have been honing my talents of traveling not only with a capsule wardrobe ...

Dr Hauschka Sage and Mint Deodorant
For years I have been testing organic, non-toxic deodorants as I, like a lot of you, have been reading about how bad normal deodorants are for us. The problem is: I have never found one that actually works! And I do like smelling good, so that was a bit too much of a stumbling block ...

A quick morning make-up solution
With four children to get ready in the morning for their school and daycare, lunch boxes to prepare, gym bags to collect, my mornings are a bit hectic to say the very least.  Most of the time my husband drops the kids off to school on his way to work (all of them piled up on ...

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery
When it comes to the world of beauty products, I've been living on planet Mars. If you read my beauty uniform post on A Cup of Jo, you'll already know that most of the beauty products I use are ones that I've used since I was a teenager. I hardly ever try anything new. So ...

Wearing lipstick!
Apart from playing dress-up with my mom's lipstick when I was little, I have never been a lipstick girl. I tried lip gloss when I was in college, but I could never figure out how to keep my hair from getting stuck in my lips, especially in windy Chicago! (Is there a trick I'm not ...

Recipe: Home-Made Deodorant! (Yes, you've Read it Right!)
I’ve already shared this recipe on my blog but it’s so amazing I just have to post it here as well. I’ve tested it during the hot summer days and it works like a charm. It’s natural, organic and like I said – it’s a recipe but it’s not food, in fact it’s deodorant! Yes, ...

A Little About the Right Type of Sunscreen
Usually I write about cute clothes, darling shoes, best toys, I even throw in a few recipes and some fun DIYs here and there but today I’d like to talk about something a little more boring but far more important than all that – about choosing the right type of sunscreen. The sunny days that ...

Nuxe cleansing water
Emilie introduced me to this all-in-one cleansing lotion from Nuxe, a fixed staple in her beauty routine, and I've become a fan too. The Australian skincare company, Aesop, seems to be taking over the world! There are now six Aesop stores in London, not counting the numerous stockists across the city... and I was just in Paris a few weeks ago and couldn't help but stumble into several of their gorgeous stores. I am certainly hooked, and so ...

MAC Skin Finish
I need to preference this post: I am not big on products anymore. There was a time during which I had the false hope that a new pot of eye shadow would revolutionize my look -- it never did. But sometimes I do discover something that makes my life a little easier. I am always tying ...

Some MOR pampering please!
Ok, I  admit to a shameless obsession with beautiful packaging, even for the most mundane of items. There is an Australian brand, MOR cosmetics, which causes me to positively swoon... though there is nothing mundane about these decadent products. Inspired by traditional apothecary and the blending of age-old and contemporary ingredients, MOR's lotions, aromatic oils and candles make ...

Jergens naturals
I received a couple samples of the new Jergens Naturals range of lotions recently, and despite my lack of enthusiasm and (dare I admit my beauty snobbery?!) initial skepticism, I am loving it! Savon de Marseille
Marseille as a town is not particularly known for its cleanliness, but one of its most famous products is the soap. Le savon de Marseille is a French institution. A little bit of (fake) sunshine
Though I am half French, I have inherited my father's Irish skin. So for me, every springtime it is the same old story: I look as pale as a ghost when the sun finally comes out! I have always been prejudiced about fake tan, ever since I got a bit carried away with a bottle ...

As parents, do you occasionally argue in front of your children? Courtney has written about this on today’s blog post (tap on link).... “But then, as I tried my hardest to regain my composure, I realised that it’s actually probably healthy for them to witness an argument and to know that not everything is always picture-perfect, and that we are human and we sometimes fight, but that we will eventually make-up and learn from this and things will be better because of it.” @courtneyadamo What are your thoughts? 🤐 or ? #babyccinokids #teachingchildren #growingasparents
