New video: a French braid tutorial
Our newest video is now up on our YouTube Channel! We figured it was easier to show you how to French braid in a video rather than in photos, so here's our first video hair tutorial. We shot this video a couple months ago when I was in Amsterdam visiting Esther, and sweet little Ava ...

In my hand luggage
I have been on the road so often lately that my suitcase is just sitting open on the floor and gets emptied and refilled again on a regular basis. I also never have the patience for waiting for suitcases at airports, so I have been honing my talents of traveling not only with a capsule wardrobe ...

Hair style: the low flip ponytail
This hair tutorial is extremely easy. Just brush your child's hair, and make a low ponytail using an elastic band. Pull back the elastic band slightly to make room. Then, separate the hair approximately in the middle, creating a gap. Then, flip the hair over and pull through the gap. Voila! Such an easy hairstyle, ...

Hair style: a messy top-knot
This hairstyle is one of my favourites for Sara -- I think it reflects her style really well (plus, it suits her face). It's easy, but the technique is a bit tricky to explain. I'll do my best, and I think the photos help! Have an elastic band handy. First, brush the hair up high (high!) ...

Hair style: messy side buns
This hairstyle is so sweet, and also a fast one once you get the hang of the technique. I like the crazy, messy look! Have two elastic bands handy. Brush and part the hair. A messy parting is fine! Form a side pony tail with your left hand. With the other hand, pull the tail ...

Hair style: double pinned-up braids
This is a hairstyle that I remember from my early childhood. My mum would pin up my braids for festive days, and I would feel so, so special the entire day. (Again, my friend Maud has taken all of the photos.) I started with Julie's hair. Julie is Maud's daughter and Ava's little friend, you might ...

Hair style: twisties
Twisties (or side buns) have been my super-quick hairdo solution for my girls since Sara started to have hair long enough to work with (and that took years). They're just so quick and easy and always look cute, even when they're completely crooked (I actually like them better that way). They're so quick and easy to ...

Klorane Dry Shampoo
I have been travelling a lot lately in planes, trains and automobiles... which has been a lot of fun, but the one thing that has suffered a little bit is my hair. Waking up in the early hours and getting my girls ready and out of the door to catch a train does not leave ...

Original Sprout Hair Care for Kids
One of my twin daughters has stick-straight blond hair while the other is a brunette with a thick mane of curly ringlets.  During the morning routine the blond is pretty easy -- a quick comb through and she is good to go.  The curly brunette however, takes a little more work to get camera ready ...

What I can't leave the house without ...
Anyone who knows me will find it somewhat hysterical that I would be writing about my favourite 'beauty' product.  I'm one of those girls who considers mascara and lip-balm "dolling myself up".  I'm pretty useless in that whole arena and since having kids even worse. The only 'area' that I did try and spend a ...

Today’s new post from Lara “Seek is the one and only app that our (young) children use. It started in lockdown over the Spring, as things sprung to life, and our children would ask us ‘what’s that?’ So my husband found the answer, which was for all of us to learn more from the world of amazing digital technology by using a free app (and find out more about the amazing world!). We think it is so outstanding actually and have told so many friends and family members to use it too, because it teaches them about the world and nature! I should quickly add that this is not a sponsored post! It is just a great tip I wanted to share.” And we love this thought... “You don’t have to travel far to find weird and beautiful wildlife. Your garden, local park, street tree, window box or the verge alongside a local footpath are rich ecosystems filled with species… you’ll be able to identify any living thing in your patch – plants, flowers, insects, fungi, birds and animals. It’s like having a naturalist in your pocket! When you ID a species you’ll be able to find out all about it, and see how common or rare it is for your area and the time of year.” More about the app in our bio link. But tell us, are you using any interesting educational apps for nature or science? ps And stay tuned for more about her holiday on a lighthouse island in @laraoflondon ‘s post next week! #babyccinokids #babyccinotips #babyccinotravels #seek

Autumn Equinox — a note from Esther... “I was talking to Lara earlier today, and she was reminding me of the start of Autumn happening today. Autumn! Today, the bright daylight hours and the dark nightly hours are of equal length. From now on, the days will get shorter, the nights will get longer… until the longest night, Winter Solstice (taking place on December 21st) will mark the beginning of the Winter season. Today is Autumn Equinox: the night and the day are in perfect balance. It marks the moment of the sun entering Libra (my star sign!), bringing harmony and stability, and which is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty. All good things, and definitely things we need in these uncertain, difficult and turbulent times. Autumn is when the air starts to feel crisper and smell muddier, when the colours of nature are intensifying before they change colour, when the light is low and magical, when the days get wetter and the weather gets windier. It is the time to harvest apples and nuts and pumpkins, to make pies and soups and stews and to cosy up the house with rugs, pillows and blankets. Fall is so cosy! To celebrate this First Day of Autumn, I thought it would be nice to make a list of all the little things, family traditions and crafts we love doing in fall. Most we have posted about before, but there are some new ideas and things I want to try as well. Going through old posts and getting this list together has been so inspiring — yes, we are entering the darker and colder months, but there is so much to do and make, and many of these activities are super simple and made with whatever nature supplies us with. Fall truly is fabulous!” xx Esther Enjoy @estherbabyccino fifteen favourite fall activities to get inspired, link in bio. #babyccinokids #babyccinotips #autumnequinox @maudfontein 🧡
