Greek myths for children -- fascinating and magical!
We're going to Athens this weekend! It's going to be a short trip but we're all super exited. I've been to Athens a few times before, and I just love that city -- the mix of the old and the new is so magical. To get everyone in the spirit of the (Old) Greeks and ...

A book series my 9-year-old daughter loves
Ivy received a copy of Withering-by-Sea by Judith Rossell in her Christmas stocking this year, and she loved it so much, we had to quickly run back to the bookstore to buy the next two books in the series. She tells me these are her new favourite books, so I just knew I had to share ...

'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell, a captivating chapter book
How gorgeous has summer been in Europe? Oh my goodness we are loving it! These slow, happy, sunshiny days are just perfect. Reading to older children-- fun and beneficial
My kids love reading. Pim and Sara really devour books, and Ava has also recently gotten the hang of it. They are entirely captivated by their books! (Poor Casper, it can be frustrating to be the only one unable to read!) I suppose it can be a natural transition to stop reading to children when ...

A beautiful chapter book for older children (and mamas too)
Quite often I'll choose a novel for myself from the big kids section over something from the regular adult readers. This one, The Secret of Nightingale Wood by Lucy Strange is written for ten year olds plus (or that's what amazon says anyway) and is such a rich, intense storyline that I managed to read ...

Books my boys have enjoyed lately
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we recently spent a few weeks in my family's beach house on Bainbridge Island, spending lots of time inside due to wet, rainy weather. The kids were blowing through books at a quicker rate than normal, which, of course, was wonderful to see. Quin, who has never been our ...
