A Fun First Birthday Cake (and it is sugar free!)
I find first birthdays particularly bittersweet, because I love and cherish the sweetness of that first year of life. I think back to those first moments when they were born, and I am utterly amazed by how much the sweet babies grow in just one year! And because the first year of life is so ...

Cotton Twist's cute customisable invites
Birthdays are such highlights for children -- the anticipation of the weeks (months!) ahead, the days leading up to it... Thinking of which presents to ask, what party theme to choose, which friends to invite, preparing the invites for the big day. It is all so exciting and makes children feel so very special. We already know ...

Cooking for a big group of people
Tamar's birthday was a few weeks ago. Because his birthday is so close after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, we don't always know if we feel like celebrating with even more food and drinks. So I waited 'til pretty much last minute until deciding I was up for organising a party... but in the end I did ...

A stick-themed 9th birthday party
Pim turned 9 in February, but something very sad happened in our close surroundings around that time, which made it difficult for me to get myself in the mood for organising a party back then. I kept postponing it, until suddenly I realised the end of the school year was near. Oops! So on the last day ...

A flower party for Ava's 6th birthday
Last weekend, Ava finally celebrated her sixth birthday party with a few friends from her class. We had decided on a flower theme, which we thought would be cute for a bunch of 6-year-olds. It ended up being a lovely sunny day, and the flower party theme was so good (and so easy!). I always like ...

A dolls' garden party for Ava's 5th birthday!
Ava recently turned 5 -- the age where a birthday party really, really matters. We had family and friends over on the day of her birthday (the so-called 'family party'), but she was also really looking forward to the party for her little friends. I had been really, really busy with work and all sorts of ...

Birthday gifts for a 10-year-old boy
I still can't believe my baby is TEN!! We celebrated our big boy with pancakes for breakfast, an afternoon spent at ...

A LEGO party for Pim's 8th birthday
Birthdays are a big deal for children, and we like to celebrate it appropriately. We make a big deal out of it. Family tradition: the birthday crown
In the Netherlands, it's a tradition to give a child a birthday crown for the day when it's his or her birthday.
