SKIN CARE AND MAKE UP
Natural pregnancy skincare by Eve & Rose
My belly is big and round now and I just feel the skin stretching around it. So tight! Also, the itching is terrible, and comes in waves. My legs, my arms, my back (especially there where I can not reach)... All so itchy! It's part of the pregnancy deal, of course, and thankfully temporary (almost ...

Periods and eco-friendly menstrual products
It might be a bit of a strange subject for me to talk about periods and eco friendly menstrual products at the moment, given the fact that I haven't menstruated for over 7 months now. However, I've recently been talking with friends about menstrual cups (there's the MoonCup, the OrganiCup and the DivaCup, for example), ...

Homemade Lavender Essential Oil
If I had to choose my favorite summer smell it would be the smell of the sea and lavender. Unfortunately I can’t bottle up the first one but I can do that with the lavender! And if only I knew how very easy it is to do it I’d make tens of them every year. ...

Make Your Own Sunscreen at Home!
I was playing with an idea of making a sunscreen at home for a while because I’m very picky when it comes to them: they first need to be mineral without nanoparticles and can’t have any perfumes and/or nasty chemicals in them -- I even wrote a post a while ago about it. And when I ...

Schmidt's: A natural deodorant for the entire family
If you have a little girl around the age of nine, there's a big fat chance that one day you will stand next to her and realise that it's not your own armpits you're smelling, but those of your daughter. Suddenly, that innocent baby of yours will have a first wave of hormones going through ...

Make your own Mouthwash
I was talking to Esther a few weeks ago and she asked me if I ever made a mouthwash myself and it was kind of funny because I was just thinking about trying to. Sadly most store-bought mouthwashes contain all sorts of toxins and chemicals that you don’t really need in order to fight bacteria ...

Natural Mascara from Gaya: a must-have!
I (used to) love make-up. That was pre-kids when time was something I still had, but now to be honest I’m too lazy for it. I only use mascara when I don’t forget and a concealer when the nights are too rough. Another thing is that I'm really complicated when it comes to skincare products. ...

My favourite cruelty-free skincare products
My daughter has started developing her activist streak and it is really making me think about my shopping habits and attitudes. I absolutely agree with her that testing on animals is not a great thing, but have to admit I can easily forget to think about it when out shopping. But seeing the earnestness in ...

Dr Jackson's Natural Skin Care
When the lovely Luisa from Niko and Ava told me about Dr Jackson at our LA ShopUp and described him (and I quote) as the "Indiana Jones" of skincare, I was more than intrigued. She very kindly sent me some of Dr Jackson's products to test and now I am not intrigued anymore. I am addicted! ...

Thursday Thoughts: To shave or not to shave
Okay ladies, a funny thing happened to me this week. I posted this photo (above) on my Instagram feed to feature a watch brand I like and to talk about the two opposing sides of my personal style, as reflected by my wrists. But, the comments and conversation quickly became focused on my arm hair!!! Some people told me "it looked gross," while others suggested I ...

Kiehl's Overnight Hydrating Masque
So here is light and fluffy post for your Friday. Esther and I hung out last weekend as she was in town for the trade shows. We spent a lot of time giggling and being a bit ridiculous, and this year we decided that, instead of spending our night in the bars of my neighbourhood, we would ...

My favourite sunsreen -- Aesop's Protective Body Lotion SPF50
I have applied sunscreen every day for the past five months. It's become a normal part of my morning routine: brush teeth, wash face, apply sunscreen. The sun is so harsh here in New Zealand that sunscreen is necessary even on cloudy days! I picked up this Aesop protective body lotion last summer before leaving ...

Dr Hauschka Sage and Mint Deodorant
For years I have been testing organic, non-toxic deodorants as I, like a lot of you, have been reading about how bad normal deodorants are for us. The problem is: I have never found one that actually works! And I do like smelling good, so that was a bit too much of a stumbling block ...

Hair style: the low flip ponytail
This hair tutorial is extremely easy. Just brush your child's hair, and make a low ponytail using an elastic band. Pull back the elastic band slightly to make room. This hairstyle is so sweet, and also a fast one once you get the hang of the technique. I like the crazy, messy look! Have two elastic bands handy. Brush and part the hair. A messy parting is fine! Form a side pony tail with your left hand. With the other hand, pull the tail ...

Hair style: double pinned-up braids
This is a hairstyle that I remember from my early childhood. My mum would pin up my braids for festive days, and I would feel so, so special the entire day. Twisties (or side buns) have been my super-quick hairdo solution for my girls since Sara started to have hair long enough to work with (and that took years). Hi guys! Here Bethie and I are showing you how to prepare a super easy dish that your family will love -- a video we bring to you in cooperation with Abel & Cole, deliverer of fabulous food boxes filled to the brim with organic freshness! Here's the list of ingredients: a royal 1 tbsp of olive oil 1 butternut squash 1 red onion 2 red peppers 2 garlic cloves 4 vine tomatoes 150g quinoa sea salt & freshly ground pepper 300 ml vegetable stock 2 tbsp red wine vinegar 25g raisins 80g black olives And for the garnish: a handful of chervil feta (optional) Directions: Peel your butternut squash. Cut in half and scoop out the seeds. Chop the flesh into 1cm chunks. Peel and cut the onion into thick slices. Cut the pepper in half and scoop out the seeds and white pith. Chop into bitesized pieces. Peel and thinly slice the garlic. Roughly chop the tomatoes. Rinse the quinoa under cold water to remove any bitterness. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large heavy based pan. Tip in all the veg and quinoa. Pour in the veg stock and the red wine vinegar. Add the raisins and the olives. Season with salt and pepper. Pop on a lid and cook for 30-40 mins until the squash is soft and the sauce thick. Stir every now and then during cooking. Scatter over the chervil (or flat leaf parsley leaves) and serve in warm bowls. Top with crumbled feta if you like! A super colourful, super easy and super delicious dish for taste buds of all ages! Bon appétit!
