AUTUMN CRAFTS
Simple leaf print-splash art
Did you ever splash drops of ink on paper using a toothbrush? My mum taught me this technique when I was a child and suddenly, when Ava and I were picking up pretty leaves the other day, I remembered how fun it was. All you need is an old toothbrush and some coloured ink. Dip ...

A fun way to use all those conkers your kids have collected
My friend, AC, is one of those wild outdoorsy types (in the coolest of ways, of course) who embraces the outdoors, no matter the weather, and comes up with the most creative and fun ways to entertain her kids. She's such a fun mama, and I'm really hoping she'll rub off on me a bit in the ...

Little Acorn People
Every autumn, Elodie asks when we are going to “meet more acorn friends.” We first created these little people at a play group we used to attend a few years back and it has firmly took hold into a seasonal tradition for us. We always collect leaves and twigs for their little beds and can ...

The Little Things... A Nature Scavenger Hunt
Beautiful leaves are falling on the forest grounds, beechnuts, hazelnuts and chestnuts can easily be found (a tasty discovery!), and upon close forest floor examination, a world of interesting insects can be explored. A little walk outdoors, just a few steps in the autumn nature, opens up an entire world! Ava and her two little ...

DIY: Leaf Men
After a very gentle autumn here in northern Spain, low temperatures arrived last week and leaves started falling from the trees. This is what we did a couple of years ago and it was such a success, we are willing to go on a leaf hunt to do it again! The good thing is that ...

Apple stamping and tote bag making!
Last May it was Sara's 7th birthday, and she wished for a 'sewing' party with her girlfriends. I suspect this has to do with the craft night I organise with a few of my girlfriends every 2 weeks on Monday night, which involves tea and homemade cake and lots of chit-chat. Sara loves the idea ...

Knitted hood hats

After returning home from summer holidays, I decided to get out my knitting needles and give this recipe a go. I always get inspired around this time of ...

Autumn craft -- A not-so-scary spiderweb
I grew up in the countryside and have seen enough big hairy spiders in my bedroom to infect me with a mild form of arachnophobia. But this spiderweb my daughter made is allowed to hang in my house... Just use a chestnut for the centerpiece, pierce 5 holes (a metal skewer works), insert wooden skewers ...

Crazy pinecone creatures
It's technically still summer here in Amsterdam but in reality it's been autumn at its worst these last few weeks. Crazy! The one advantage of autumn (the only one, really) is that there are loads of cool things falling from the trees, like for instance pine cones, which are fun to gather on a forest ...

Chestnut chaps
Last fall Esther wrote a really cute post about collecting acorns and chestnuts and turning them into little 'chestnut chaps'.  I thought it was such a cute idea and definitely worth repeating for this theme week.  I love the idea of bundling up your family and taking a long walk together to collect nuts and ...

Autumn Equinox — a note from Esther... “I was talking to Lara earlier today, and she was reminding me of the start of Autumn happening today. Autumn! Today, the bright daylight hours and the dark nightly hours are of equal length. From now on, the days will get shorter, the nights will get longer… until the longest night, Winter Solstice (taking place on December 21st) will mark the beginning of the Winter season. Today is Autumn Equinox: the night and the day are in perfect balance. It marks the moment of the sun entering Libra (my star sign!), bringing harmony and stability, and which is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and beauty. All good things, and definitely things we need in these uncertain, difficult and turbulent times. Autumn is when the air starts to feel crisper and smell muddier, when the colours of nature are intensifying before they change colour, when the light is low and magical, when the days get wetter and the weather gets windier. It is the time to harvest apples and nuts and pumpkins, to make pies and soups and stews and to cosy up the house with rugs, pillows and blankets. Fall is so cosy! To celebrate this First Day of Autumn, I thought it would be nice to make a list of all the little things, family traditions and crafts we love doing in fall. Most we have posted about before, but there are some new ideas and things I want to try as well. Going through old posts and getting this list together has been so inspiring — yes, we are entering the darker and colder months, but there is so much to do and make, and many of these activities are super simple and made with whatever nature supplies us with. Fall truly is fabulous!” xx Esther Enjoy @estherbabyccino fifteen favourite fall activities to get inspired, link in bio. #babyccinokids #babyccinotips #autumnequinox @maudfontein 🧡
