Wooden Stacking Trees from Uuio
I have an (almost unhealthy) obsession with wood. Sometimes I try to imagine the most impossible things made of wood. A couple of months ago we were in a toy museum in Nürmberg in Germany and I saw an old doll from Haba made of wood, so the first thing I did when I got ...

Eco-friendly wooden toys from Wooden Story
A few months ago, here in a cute shop in my little town, I discovered the beautiful, natural wooden blocks set by Polish company Wooden Story. These blocks, like all of the wooden toys by Wooden Story, are hand made in the Beskidy Mountains of Poland from environmentally sourced wood. Beeswax and botanical oils give ...

Woody knitting toy
This past Christmas I discovered the ethical French toy brand Les Jouets Libres when looking for gifts to give my nieces and nephews. They make the most beautiful, old-fashioned wooden toys, the kind of toys you keep forever. I ended up buying this pretty stacking toy for one and this colourful blocks set for another, both which ...

Tuesday tips: Open-ended play and evergreen toys
Today for Tuesday Tips I would like to talk about toys. The kind of toys that I prefer in our house are the basic, evergreen kind of toys. I like toys that are well made, with a simple concept, that can be used and combined in different ways or played with in different settings. Toys that ...

London-Themed Toys from Alex & Alexa
I'm always a sucker for wooden toys in iconic London designs. I'm not sure if it's because I'm an American and so I'm still charmed by the quintessential Englishness of them... or if it's because I'm a Londoner and I like them just for that (who doesn't love a black cab?!). I'm loving the range ...

Little Sapling Toys
I found this beautiful wooden stacking ring in a cute little interiors shop near my parents' house in the Midlands (called Bagel & Griff in Market Harborough, for any readers up that way).  Not only is it beautiful to look at, but totally natural, safe and soothing for babies to play with (and chew on). ...

Babyccino Birthday -- Djeco Stacking Game
These fun shapes 'Créanimaux Farme' by Djeco are not your usual building blocks.  They come with feet, tails and heads and can be combined to make the six cute farm animals pictured...  But they can also be creatively combined into the coolest, craziest creatures you can come up with! My kids (and I) have already had ...

Wooden stacking hen
My daughter received this wooden stacking hen by Pintoy as a 1st birthday gift. The features are similar to any other stacking toy, but with a twist: once you remove the 5 colourful rings you will find her nest and the egg she is hatching! I think this would make a nice little Easter present for the ...

Great birthday gift suggestions for a 2-year-old
Second birthdays are such fun! At this age, those little personalities are so very fun and alive, and there is more engagement in general, but especially in opening gifts and playing with them. They really get it -- opening gifts becomes the thing. Not just playing with the wrapping papers! :) We received so many ...

I've been admiring this beautiful wooden stacking toy at my friend Kim's house for the past two years. I love the simplicity of it, and the colors, and the fact that you can make so many differently-shaped objects.  When I asked her where she got it, she told me she picked it up in Moderna ...

Little Robot Birthday Party -- a fun theme for a 3-year-old
Joseph is three and to celebrate we had a little party for him and his friends. He has a few simple passions, and loves the idea of robots, painting, the colour orange, eating fruit, and how things work. So that is just what we did -- a little robot party, with orange decor, handprinted invites, ...

A bee-themed 5th birthday tea party
Our little Queen Bee, Beatrice, just turned five and we had a very small party in our little hive to celebrate. Earlier this week, a successful beauty blogger in the Netherlands, Nikkie de Jager @nikkietutorials publicly announced that she is transgender. A very brave thing to do and was incredibly impressed by her story and the way she chose to share it. If you haven’t seen it yet, there is a lot to learn from Nikkie’s coming out video on youtube. It is an inspiring message from a strong roll model, addressing young people who feel insecure, misunderstood or simply not in the right place. It is about acceptance, respect, hearing and understanding each other, about writing your own story, about the power of being yourself — whoever you are and whatever you are. It is also about the importance of supportive parenting. Nikkie shares that she is intensely grateful for her mother, who always saw and heard, listened and understood, respected and supported her in her choices and in her transition. We have always tried to be straightforward in discussing sex and reproduction with our children, and open about the idea that heterosexuality is just one shade of a wider spectrum of diversity. Thanks for the new blog post @estherbabyccino ... what are your thoughts? Comment below and link is in bio. #babyccinokids #thursdaythoughts

If you’re looking for an idea to help children run off that pre-dinner energy, this is it... a winter scavenger hunt! The idea from our lovely Shannon @slcorlis is a pretty loose and flexible one: to walk around after dark and see how many winter and holiday things kids can spot either decorating homes and businesses or peeking through windows. Decorations are often left up until early January, so there’s still plenty of time to have a go at this before the end of the season. See her helpful how to on today’s blog. #babyccinokids #scavengerhunt #winteractivities
