Shopping for tween & teen girls — some favourite brands

While it felt like a very slow and steady journey into adolescence for my boys, it appeared to happen completely overnight for Ivy! I don’t know if this is a difference between boys and girls, but for Ivy it has certainly been a huge year of growing and changing quickly. She will turn 12 in May, and she has well and truly entered adolescence in mind, body and spirit. What a beautiful thing to witness!

Ivy’s fashion likes and dislikes have changed too. She went from wearing dresses almost daily to not wanting to wear dresses at all! (I completely remember this stage when I was her age — suddenly nothing in my closet appealed to me, and I remember breaking down in tears the day before 7th grade started, begging my mum to take me to the shopping mall.) That tween/teen age can be a tricky one!

I thought I would share some of Ivy’s favourite brands now that she’s developed her own sense of style a bit. Ivy is quite tall, so she can wear a lot of women’s extra small or small sizes, which is lucky for her. (She’s often stealing tops from my wardrobe!) But we’ve also discovered some great tween/teen brands and pieces below:

  • Louise Misha go up to size 14y. Ivy loves their pretty blouses (like this one!).
  • Young Double have organic cotton tees with fun slogans. Ivy loves the Future Artists tees and sweatshirts.
  • Mabo goes up to size 14/15, and has always been one of my very favourite brands both for organic cotton basics and pretty dresses and blouses.
  • Bellerose has been a longtime favourite brand of ours that goes from sizes 2y all the way up to 18y. Ivy loves their overalls and skirts.
  • Ivy has scored at our local vintage shop a few times and has found some great denim shorts she loves, but Orange Mayonnaise has some great brands for teens, and I just found this pair of organic denim shorts, which are so cute, and these denim shorts by Finger in the Nose.
  • Tiny Cottons has a fun collection that goes up to size 12y in the children’s range, and they also have a women’s range once they outgrow the children sizes.
  • For special occasions, Doen have the prettiest blouses and dresses that come in XXS and XS sizes, great for teens.
  • Canopea has cute swimwear that goes up to size 14y.
  • Ivy loves wearing denim shortalls. Again, she’s found some vintage ones she likes similar to these ones from Levi’s.
  • Mango Kids is a great high street brand with cute things for teens up to size 11/12y. How pretty is this blouse and these high waisted denim culottes!
  • Jungmaven make the most comfy organic cotton and hemp tees. Ivy now fits into the women’s size XS. (These are my personal fave tees too!)
  • Babaà is our favourite for knitwear. Ivy can fit into the women’s sizes now.

I’d love to hear if you have other fashion recommendations for tween and teen girls. Please share below!

Thanks for this post. Will definitely check out some of these brands later. Mango is great and Zara is also another highstreet chain that has recently (to me) introduced a teen section to it’s collection.
I wonder Courtney, if you would also consider sharing your approach to discussing puberty with Ivy. My oldest daughter is 10 and is starting to ask questions about puberty, having babies etc. I can’t believe we are already at this point!!

Hey Courtney,
Thank you for sharing, so helpful. Bella is turning 11 this year and her style is also changing.
I also would appreciate any tips on how to best approach the body changes, puberty, menstruation, etc.. when did you first discuss with Ivy? Do you have books you can recommend? I would truly appreciate any advice. Thank you so much x x x

I really love Hanna Andersson for their organic cotton pajamas and also their simple cotton tops. I usually get the ones without graphics.

This was such a helpful post. I looked at the links with my daughter who is Ivys age. She pointed out some items which I’ll give her next month for her birthday. This has been such a dilemma as her style was changing and places we had shopped just didn’t fit for many reasons.
