HALLOWEEN CRAFTS

Perforated Pumpkin Luminaries – A Fun Halloween Cardboard Craft

This year I did not have the energy to go collect a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and carve it with a toddler, so we tried something new!  We “carved”, painted and decorated cardboard pumpkins and made them into perforated pumpkin luminaries.  This method is ‘less mess and no stress’, using materials you already have on hand!

Materials Needed:

  • cardboard
  • pencil
  • scissors or a utility/precision knife
  • paint brushes
  • paint
  • pressed flowers (alternatively stickers or glitter)
  • glue
  • tape
  • candle or electronic tea light

Instructions:

  1. Draw a pumpkin shape onto your cardboard.
  2. Draw your pumpkin face or design inside the frame of the pumpkin.
  3. Use your scissors or knife to cut out the pumpkin and the shapes you have drawn inside.
  4. Paint your pumpkin shape and allow to dry overnight.
  5. Decorate as you wish.
    • We glued on pressed flowers to decorate ours, but you can use stickers, crayons, glitter or anything else you wish!
  6. Using left over cardboard, cut and tape a triangle shaped piece to the back of your pumpkin to help it stand up.
  7. Prop your pumpkin up and put a light behind it.
  8. You have a mess free halloween pumpkin!
