I’ve been a longtime fan of this swimwear brand, since the very first collection from five years ago. In fact, we have some of the much-loved 5-year-old rash shirts still going strong! And living near the beach, my kids wear their rash shirts practically more than they wear shoes, so this alone is a testament to the quality of these pieces! And of course, it goes without saying, that the swimwear is super cute too. I love the colours so much. And those rash shirts really are the very best you can buy — with high collars to protect the neck and snaps at the shoulder to make them easy to put on.

Canopea swimwear is not only wonderful quality and super cute. It’s also an environmentally conscious brand. At the start of this year, I made a personal commitment to being more mindful of the brands I support with regards to the considerations they’re making about preserving our planet. So I asked Constance, the founder of Canopea, to share her brand’s eco-credentials with me. This is what she told me:

• The fabric is made from Econyl®, a super-resistant nylon fibre, made from recycled fishnets and plastic bottles found in the ocean (studies have found that fishnets represent 10% of plastic waste in the world’s oceans!).
• The sun protection comes from the tight weaving of the fibre so there are no nasty chemical UV filters that wear off after a few dips. (The fabric is certified Oekotex and UPF 50+, filtering 98% of UV rays.)
• The materials are sourced in Europe and exclusively manufactured in European textile workshops, ensuring the best quality for the fabrics (which are lab tested over 200 hours!), safe work conditions for their partners and limiting their carbon footprint during production.
• Canopea works closely with a small local Work Integration Social Enterprise (WISE) for all their packing and shipping, providing employment to disadvantaged young workers and helping them step back into the work force.
• They also keep their packaging lean, reducing unnecessary waste to ensure clients receive their swimwear wrapped in beautiful crisp silk paper with a simple beautiful thank you card.
• They are currently working on a circular economy programme to take back old swimwear and reinsert fabric in the production line again and for the past 4 years they have been proud members of the Fashion Revolution Movement @fash_rev, which encourages more transparency about manufacturing processes by asking/showing #whomademyclothes.

It’s safe to say Canopea is conscious of their environmental impact and mindful about the way they run their business.

My favourite swimwear pieces from this current collection are the Diego Swim Shorts (seen on Wilkie above), the Lauren ruffled one-piece, the Joan one-piece and the Alba one-piece suit. And of course the rash tops, which includes a new short-sleeved version. Everything available in a selection of beautiful colours — from deep turquoise blues to Grenada coral reds. So pretty!
