Rose & Lavender Bath Soak — great for mama time!

Bring colour into your grey winter days, wake up your senses, and treat yourself to this very simple homemade bath soak. Then turn on the water and… relax!

This pretty, and very simple soak consists of a few ingredients, and can be made in a few quick minutes, with or without children. We made several as Christmas gifts, plan to give some as Valentine gifts too (those romantic red petals are so pretty!) and of course will enjoy some for ourselves.

Ingredients: (for 1 medium sized container of soak)

To make :

  1. Tear up the rose petals (this is so they are small enough to disappear down the drain and so little clean up is required after your bath)!
  2. Roughly measure out the other ingredients. Mix on a tray or in a bowl. Please note: I didn’t even measure it while making it with my kids, you really can’t go too wrong. You can just guesstimate depending on how much you choose to make.
  3. Mix salts and flowers, and then begin to decant into lidded jars.
  4. Label them with a sweet sticker if giving it as a gift. We used some by Rifle Paper Co.
  5. Once using them, add the bath soak to very hot water at first in the bathtub to dissolve them, then bring water to the preferred temperature once dissolved. You can add as little or as much as you’d like.

It is a great activity to do with children, and would also be a sweet Valentine’s gift to make for grandmothers, aunts, teachers, or friends!

If you give as a gift, or add a label, here are some other little facts you may want to mention…

Lavender is excellent for aching muscles, relaxation, and stress relief. Its’ powerful as well for antioxidant, antimicrobial, sedative, calming and anti-depressive properties. So soak away!

Rose petals are often the image of luxury and self love. But it can actually enhance your skin and mood. Rosewater soothes irritated skin, brightens your complexion and tightens pores for a smooth appearance.

Epsom Salt in water breaks down into magnesium and sulfate. The theory is that when you soak in an Epsom salt bath, these get into your body through your skin, helping to relax muscles and loosen stiff joints.

Himalayan Pink Salt is so very pretty! But it also helps to relax, de-stress, detoxify your body. And it helps you to sleep like a baby. And what mama or friend doesn’t want to do that!

We also love this lavender bag craft, little sewn sachets to keep the home smelling sweet! And since we are on a roll with lavender, how about making your own lavender oil which is also lovely to add to a bath.

My other recent favourite DIY bath product is this Zesty Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub. Another one to fight off winter blues!

Hi, lovely ideas! Where do you get your rose petals and lavender from?

Hello Harriet, You can click on the links in the ingredients. I try to use organic and fair trade ones, but ideally I would use them from a garden if I had one! Otherwise health food stores would probably carry them, along with the salts, or even some chemists / pharmacies may have them. Good luck making yours. 🙂
