Maralex is a cute kids concept store in the district of Passy in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. It’s history started as a shoe store almost a century ago, in 1920 in the heart of the 17th arrondissement. That first shop was launched by two sisters, Marie and Alexandrine, who wanted to reintroduce a little fantasy and boldness in the after-war context.
In 1966 the brand moved to the shop on rue de la Pompe and decided to specialize in kids shoes only. It became a very well known kids shoes boutique in the 16th arrondissement. In 2011 the shop was passed on to the 4th generation and brothers Alexandre and Xavier added clothing and accessories to their selection. They later turned Maralex into the cool concept store we know now, one of the most fashionable stores of western Paris.
The store is a two story bright and airy space. Shoes are still the center of attention and Maralex’ lovely selection is beautifully displayed on the ground floor. Cute clothes for boys and girls are neatly scattered around on both floors. Fashionable accessories and a few fun toys are also available, making for nice gift opportunities. The smaller kids can have fun in the play area under the stairs. Decorated with an old French school desk and blackboard it will keep them busy while mom and dad shop around.
The wooden rocking horse must have been with the shop since the very beginning! I remember going to pick shoes with my mother as a little girl and looking up to it! A lot has changed since then and Maralex has evolved, but the trusty old rocking horse is still standing strong! Isn’t it so nice to see shops run by generations of the same family getting better each time you visit and yet keeping remnants of the good old times? Gotta love shops with a little history!
