Our activity advent calendar — ready to print!

Two years ago I started our first activity advent calendar and it has quickly become a firm family tradition. The children are so excited each morning of advent — taking turns to open an envelope and discovering what special thing we’ll be doing that day.

This year, I wanted to make a bit more of the display of our calendar, so I asked Sarah Betz from Little Cube to re-design the envelopes. She came up with some very pretty patterns!

The envelopes are designed separately from the activities — I always like to be able to choose what activity works best for our schedule on a certain day (I sit down with my agenda in front of me when I put together the calendar). We included some new ideas this year (thanks, Mo!), and there are also some empty fields, in case you would like to insert your own activities.

You can download the PDF for the envelopes here, and the activities here, and easily print out everything yourself or go to a local copy-shop. I chose a heavier, natural white paper for the envelopes, and plain white copy paper for the activities. After cutting everything, it is simply a matter of folding the envelopes, glueing in the activities, and then closing them with a piece of masking tape or a pretty sticker. Presto!

I used a hole puncher and hung the activities from a stick I borrowed from Pim’s collection, but you can also tape them against the wall like Sarah did here. So easy and so great looking!

Let me know if you decide to join us with an activity advent calendar this year. I would love to see photos of your display (and if you come up with new ideas for activities, I would love to hear those too!)

Happy advent!
xxx Esther

Wonderful ideas!
Can’t wait for my children to grow up so we can make all the fun christmassy-stuff!

I LOVE this idea! And this cute new design is so good!
Ugh – it doesn’t feel very Christmasy here in Australia (I’m not complaining, but it does feel weird). Maybe this is just what we need to make things feel a bit more festive around here….

This is so sweet!! I’ve been wondering what to do this year, last year I bought little gifts and put them in paper bags which the kids loved the first week or so but then seemed to get a bit too blasé about receiving a little ‘something’ every morning!!!! At this crazy busy time of year everything gets so manic I’m working late and not around much, we are all tired – what they really want is my time. This is a perfect, easy way to stop and connect and spend a little special time together. Love it!

LOVE these ideas. We have been doing an activity advent calendar for about 7 years and I always love to get new ideas. These are great!! I love having a picnic by the tree–it’s a family favorite. Thanks much.

This is so cute- we don’t celebrate Advent but these are perfect for the countdown during Ramadan to Eid. I love this idea but would be super grateful of you added 2 more numbers- 29 and 30, that way i can use these then. Happy Christmas and a joyful advent season to you.

Hi Shanze, I like your idea! But what about the numbers from 25 – 28 then? I suppose you mean you would need 6 extra envelopes…? Because Advent is 24 days (the 25th day is Christmas Day), and the countdown to Eid is thirty days (the 31st day being Eid), right? And when is Eid for 2017? Let me know, I will talk to Sarah about it and see what we can do! xxx (Also, do let me know if there are specific activities which would be fun to include!)
