This post has been really difficult for me to write. I’ve stopped and started, procrastinated and deliberated. I’ve thought about it constantly over the past weeks and months. I now realise it’s difficult for me to write this because I have so many different emotions and thoughts swirling through my head.

After an amazing adventure we are at a major crossroads in our lives. We are without a place to call home and staying with family. Michael isn’t working and isn’t keen to rush back to his field. The kids are due to start school but we are not settled enough to enrol them. Together, the six of us are transitioning from adventurers to real-lifers, finding the way to our next chapter.

And, to add a new twist to an already complex plot… we will welcome a new baby in March 2017!

I discovered I was pregnant during our month-long stay in Positano earlier this year. This baby was conceived in one of our favourite places on this planet, during the most incredible family adventure. I have spent the past few months feeling nauseous and tired, and simultaneously terrified and excited. Had I not felt so ill, I think I would have also found myself in denial – alongside Michael who is also dealing with his own set of conflicting emotions.

It’s wild to think we will go back to the baby phase – to sleepless nights and foggy days, to nappies and sippy cups and baby bibs. We gave away all of our baby stuff and can’t even begin to think about the reality of needing those things again. (I told you my mind was flooding with thoughts!)

And yet, the thought of adding another member to our family makes my heart race with joy. The thought of giving our children a new sibling to love and know forever! The thought of holding a new baby in our arms! Giving birth one more time! Breastfeeding! Even the sleepless nights. I feel like the luckiest woman on this planet.

We shared the news about the baby with the kids when we were in London a few weeks ago. They were all so excited — they were jumping up and down asking a million questions. Marlow hasn’t stopped asking to kiss my baby bump and the others keep asking how much longer they have to wait. With all the conflicting emotions Michael and I might have as we plot out our future, there is one thing I know for sure: this baby is already so, so loved.

I am excited to share my pregnancy journey with you, to start focusing on pregnancy and babies, and to grow and learn from this wonderful community of mothers.

Courtney x

The photos above were taken by Sara Welch who has taken our family photos every summer in this same spot – on the farm where I grew up. I’m wearing a dress by Ace & Jig, which thankfully works perfectly with a growing bump.

Waow. I dont know how you do this. I find it hard enough with 4 and a full time job. 🙂 my daughter was asking me for a number 5 yesterday, I would love a little brother Maman! But I realised that I was happy with 4 and for the first time not nostalgic about the baby phase. Does that mean that I am ready to be grand-ma?:-) I wish you all the best with this new baby, you are an incredible family. I still don’t get how you manage with school, money, lack of friends around (when I showed my 10y old your trip on Instagram he replied: mummy I don’t want to do this I would be missing my friends too much! On my side I would love to but can’t with our work…) well done again!

Congratulations! I am a silent German reader of of all your fantastic journeys and experiences. And mommy of the wonderful Charlotte Rosa (9 months). I love your pictures, your beautiful children and the way you raise them up and show them life. Travelling is the most incredible, beautiful and powerful way to show children the beauty of life. If I had the money I directly followed your example and went on a trip through the world. Luckily we were able to show our daughter the beautiful West Coast of Mallorca where our family owns a flat. I love “following” you by not even ever talked or listened to you. You really inspire me. Although I do not know you I had some tears in my eyes by reading your “news”. Tears only Mamas can understand. My bog but secret wish is to give my daughter a sibling, as soon as possible. I have to persuade my husband.. He is always full of thoughts as you described above. All the best. From a Mama.

September 8, 2016

Hi Megan,
Thanks for your sweet comment. I turned 35 earlier this year. I don’t think it’s too old at all. In fact, so many women in London wait until their late 30s or early 40s to begin their family. I think it completely depends on the person, their family and their own circumstances. xx

Courtney!!! I am a nobody to you, just another silly admirer who’s been following along since marlow was a baby. But you have been such an inspiration and idol to me. I’m a young momma of two toddlers ( ages 2 and 3 ) and due with our third in a few weeks. I always ask myself at difficult parenting times, ” what would Courtney do!?” It sounds pathetic, but truly. I look up to you in every way, think you are the most beautiful person, and immediately had tears of joy for you when I saw this. I could not be happier of more excited for you. All nerve wracking and overwhelming thoughts aside, this is what you were made for! What a lucky little babe to have you for a momma. Thrilled for you and your gorgeous family. This makes me so so happy. All these years I have secretly been wanting you to have a fifth and hoping! Congrats adamos, ecstatic for you all. Xxo Kristin

September 9, 2016

Hi Courtney,
Congratulations on the expansion of your beautiful family! The honesty and candor of your post really resonated with me. Although I cannot relate to your particular situation, I can relate to the mixture of emotions you have been feeling these past few months. In January 2015, my partner and I learned we were expecting a baby, which we were thrilled about; however only a few short days later we learned that our application for him to immigrate to Canada, where I’m from, was rejected. So we found ourselves pregnant with a completely uncertain future (where would we live? would we have to move to the UK where he is from and start over? how could we support ourselves in Canada if he couldn’t get a work permit and I was on maternity leave?) It felt like such a hopeless situation and in fact we learned about our application rejection whilst in my first doctor’s appointment to discuss the new pregnancy. It felt like we were dealt such a blow that morning when we read the message but then that afternoon I had my first ultrasound and saw our baby’s beating heart for the first time and it put everything into perspective. I knew that we would come up with a plan and do what we had to do for our family, and whatever shape it took, it would be an adventure. It didn’t matter where we were, we’d be ok. Fast forward over a year and a half later, we are married, my husband received his work permit and has been working at his job for the past year, he got his permanent residency in May and we have a beautiful, precocious soon-to-be one year old. I truly believe that things have a way of working themselves out; it just might take a bit of time and patience for the right decisions to reveal themselves. Looking forward to following you on your pregnancy journey as I have your time in London and of course your trip around the world. All the best x

Wow Courtney, I did not see this coming! Neither did I with our 3rd daughter, I remember those mixed emotions. She came at a time when we were in the middle of a lot of struggles. But what a blessing she is, especially for me. She has allowed me to extend my time as a stay at home mum. Your news brought me to tears, what a wonderful way to have a perminant reminder of your adventures. You are all so blessed to have each other ✨✨💫

I grew up super close to my brother who was 18 months older. Sadly he passed away at 17 so I have always missed that sibling bond. I have 3 of my own now, and I’m pregnant with my 4th due in April. I hope they grow super close and get to have the experiences of nieces and nephews that I desperately wish I could have had … But … At 35 I also feel so tired at the thought of sleepless nights and starting all over again. I’m just clinging to the. Idea that it’s just a small part and in the end they will all have each other forever to love! The more the merrier I say! Good luck guys and congratulations xx

Hi Courtney,

Big, big Congratulations to you, Michael and your family. I have followed your account on Instagram when l found Babyccino by looking up something completely different on google and have followed you since just before Marlow was born. I admire you on so many levels. Such an inspiration and I am completely addicted to your account in an obsessive, total admiration way. I cannot wait to follow your pregnancy journey and see the addition to your family. Such fantastic news and how utterly delightful for you and Michael that you conceived in Positano. XX

WoW! Did not see this coming! Congratulations to all of you.
I discovered your instagram profile when Marlow could still bathe in you kitchen’s sink (looove the picture) and since then it has been a pleasure to read you and travel (a bit) through your posts. I have no kids yet but your family truly inspire me and help me step back on life in Paris (where I live), on where I’m from (far far Reunion island) and on all the possibilities to happily raise a family anywhere in the world.
Thank you for your kind words, inspiring pictures and for sharing your philosophy so beautifully.

As strange as it seems congratulating someone I’ve never met this is such happy news for you and your gorgeous family. You are such an inspiration and are giving your children such wonderful memories and stories to tell, it will be invaluable to them to have seen and experienced so many countries and cultures. I know there are so many of us who dream of doing something similar! I am constantly showing your blog to my partner! And now a new baby to join your adventures and four little excited helpers, very special times. I only have one baby at the moment but have always dreamt of a big family, it’s just too soon right now to imagine pregnancy again! There is so much love in your photos and I am looking forward to seeing your family travel through this new adventure, from an outsider looking in you and Michael are wonderful parents, this new baby is very very lucky! Best of luck to all of you

How wonderful for you all! Many congratulations to you Courtney, and to your beautiful family. You are so courageous to have done all that is required to uproot your family and travel the world; you are so brave to take on homeschooling three of your children; you are so full of love to share your journey with the world and you are all so connected to one another as a tight knit family, you will no doubt land on your feet and find the right home for your growing family. Sending you lots of love and best wishes for new baby and a wonderful journey ahead! xx

Courtney, congratulations to you and your family! Funny thing is, my mind would move the second “c” on babyccino to read “baby cinco”, so I’ve always pictured your family with 5 kids. 😊
