Dizengoff

Dizengoff 1 - Babyccino NYC Guide Dizengoff 2 - Babyccino NYC Guide Dizengoff 3 - Babyccino NYC GuideThere are times in New York when popular attractions or restaurants are worth braving the crowds, and Dizengoff, an Israeli-style hummusiya located in Chelsea Market, meets the criteria. Chelsea Market, one of New York’s original indoor food halls, is still incredibly popular with both locals and tourists alike and on weekends its assortment of stores and stalls are packed with throngs of shoppers, diners, and sightseers. Wading through them can require a bit of patience, but I urge you to forge ahead because this hummus is exceptional and perfect for a quick and filling meal.

Modeled on the hummus stalls ubiquitous in Israel, Dizengoff first opened in Philadelphia before coming to New York in Spring 2016. Freshly-made hummus is the main focus of the menu, and bowls of it come topped with a rotating selection of seasonal garnishes. We chose versions flavored with spiced beef and roasted squash with bread crumbs, both of which arrived accompanied by pita bread fresh from the oven and a small dish of Irsraeli salad and pickles. The hummus could hardly have been better – creamy and rich and served warm – but the pillowy pita stole the show for me and I would have happily eaten it all by itself.

Counter seating is available near where you place your order, though food can also be taken to go if you’d rather walk west toward the Hudson River and enjoy your hummus with a water view.

We don't eat a lot of candy in our house (or at least not while our daughter is awake...shhh!), but I'll confess to having an abiding love for sour gummy candy. A small pouch of Sour Patch Kids can be picked up at any hour in any drug store or bodega, but a far better ...

Minetta Playground
New York has plenty of destination-worthy playgrounds and public spaces, but I find myself continually thankful for the existence of the smaller neighborhood playgrounds, one or more of which can nearly always be found in areas we like to frequent for meals, shopping and entertainment, making them convenient places to stop and burn off a bit of energy. Minetta ...
