NEW YORK: EAT SEE PLAY SHOP SLEEP TIPS OUT OF TOWN

NEW YORK CITY GUIDE

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in Central Park

The track surrounding the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in Central Park is an amazing place to break a sweat and take in spectacular views of the city.  For me, it’s my best bet for squeezing in a workout, as the track is only 1.58 miles, making one or two laps achievable for the unbuff.  Even in the evening, there are plenty of joggers on the well-lit path, and the city is even more striking at night.  I’ve noticed energetic families jogging on the path, reminding me of my teenage years running with my dad.  These days, our toddler enjoys looking at the ducks and other wildlife who call the Reservoir home.  So crank the Adele and get going!  Take note: strollers and dogs are not permitted on the track, and you must travel counterclockwise.  You’ll likely get called out (as I was) if you miss the sign and attempt otherwise.

Just south of the Reservoir is Arthur Ross Pinetum offering a full set of swings for adults and children, as well as a pull-up bar which is in constant use (!!!).  Of course, you can’t miss the Great Lawn, which is the perfect setting for a stroll and a picnic.  Kiddos love Turtle Pond, filled with hundreds of turtles poking their little heads out from under the lily pads.
