Happy Easter everyone! Easter is one of my favourite holidays — the idea of celebrating the beginning of spring is just so wonderful. We have been spending the days cooking, eating, and hanging out with friends and I thought it would be nice to share some of our Easter traditions with you…
A week or two before Easter, we set a few branches of curly hazel or willow in a vase and decorate them with wooden and felt Easter ornaments we have made and collected over the years. We call this our ‘Easter Tree’ and it immediately brings spring in the house.
Easter Day here in the Netherlands is traditionally celebrated with a brunch, and I always love making a few things that for us are so typical for the Easter holiday:
Of course, after brunch the children search for the chocolate eggs that the Easter Bunny has hidden in the garden : ). (My grandfather used to make a slot in the chocolate eggs using a hot knife, and hide banknotes inside. And then he would hide them in very difficult places! I think that when the kids are a bit older, I’m going to do just the same, so fun!)
The day after Easter is another holiday for us, and we eat leftovers from Easter brunch, an take it very easy. Often, people go to the garden centre and start to prepare their gardens and balconies for spring.
So how do you celebrate Easter? Any special traditions or recipes? Please share!
xxx Esther

I’m so glad you continue to make butterhorns! I forgot to buy yeast the night before (and all the shops were closed by the time I remembered!). So we didn’t get our Easter butterhorns, and Easter didn’t feel (or taste) like it should.
Also, we missed you guys – our Easter pals!!
Happy Easter to you all. xx
We missed you too!!! xxx
happy Easter. would you mind sharing the bread bunnys recipe? They look so yummy!
Ha — I got them from our local HEMA store! http://www.hema.nl 😉
What a beautiful Easter tree and I love how you’ve carried on the traditions of your Great Grandmother! Your bunny family ornaments are so sweet. Did you purchase them or are they a family heirloom? Happy Easter Esther! Mx
I got them at a local market here in Amsterdam! x
Such lovely photos Esther. Happy Easter! I’ve never heard of a butter lamb before but I think I need one! I love the bunny bread too. Will do that next year. xx
So much loveliness! Your bunny family decorations are particularly cute. You are such a wonderful inspiration Esther – thank you for sharing! May I ask where your bunny ears are from? Happy Spring!
Thank you for your sweet comment! The bunny ears are from Meri Meri and you can get them here x
Everything is so charming and lovely! I can’t get over how precious your wooden rabbit family is, it would make me happy to know who made them.
I don’t know! I got the at a local market here in Amsterdam… x
Do you know anything about the wooden rabbits? Where they are from, who makes them? I have the girl rabbit (with the blue dress) and a boy rabbit the same size (blue shirt, blue/white strip pants). We call them Rosy and Robby Rabbit, and we love them! I would love to know where to find more.
Thank you for sharing 🙂
Hi! I got the bunny family here in Amsterdam, at a little market in our local Steiner school… Sorry I can’t be of more help…! xxx
