The very best raincoats (from Petit Bateau)

Petit Bateau raincoats
mother and daughter yellow raincoats
Petit Bateau is my go-to destination for all the staples: underwear, tees, pyjamas, swimsuits and, of course, raincoats! We now have a collection of raincoats in our house that spans all the ages, some of them are so old they’re practically vintage! And I just recently got my own adult’s version, so we are now quite the bright yellow bunch as we walk around town.

What I love about the raincoats from Petit Bateau is that they have an outside waterproof material that is soft and easy to move around in (or toss into a tote bag!) and they have the softest jersey lining on the inside, so they’re nice and thick and warm, and yet still waterproof. (Most other raincoats I’ve tried have either been too stiff or too lightweight.) I also love that they seem to last so long because the sleeves are designed to be rolled up if needed or stretched out as the child grows.

Anyway, clearly we are big fans in our family. Even my husband has one… but don’t tell him I told you so. : )

I’ve admired these raincoats go so long but resisted as I was never sure if they’d be warm enough for winter – are they your childrens “winter coats” as well as wet weather coats?

Hi, Courtney, lovely coats! And I love this blog! I’m especially intrigued about the kites. Were these homemade or where did you get them?

Hi Susan,
Thanks for your sweet comment. The girls made the kites in a cute kite-making activity put on by Muddy Puddles in the Heath a couple weekends ago. It was such a lovely idea, and the kites really DID fly!! xx

Courtney, I followed your recommendation for these and snapped them up for my girls and myself a couple of months ago. They really are lovely for the softness and the lining. (You can tell Michael my husband wants one too!) Petit Bateau even had a pale pink this season that my pink-loving girl adores. Gabs, I would say they need a jacket underneath for winter, but ours fit over jackets quite easily. I love that they will still feel nice in warmer weather when the sleeves are over bare arms. So often rain jackets are stiff and sticky, sweaty and yucky for little people. The jersey lining in these is spot-on.

Is also recommend the “sail away” jackets from JoJo Maman Bebe. Very similar in style and available in lots of colours. It’s also nearly half the price!

I agree the best and cutest raincoats in the world! Love the light pink version as well. @ Gabs, my experience is that they are too cold for winter (in Amsterdam) but you can put a warm pullover/sweat underneath to expand the time that they can wear it is my experience.

I love how soft they are too! It’s a perfect transitional coat from winter to spring – and then again from fall to winter.

Hi Courtney, I has a question to you because you can draw your kids as well as also you. My son is soon 3 years old. Which colour in Petit Bateau raincoat you would buy to him. Blue or Yellow? Your boys carry blue, the girls yellow. Bye
