When your babies grow up…

You know that feeling you get when you look over at your daughter and she suddenly looks bigger? Like she must have grown a couple inches over night? Well that happened this weekend. I swear she went from squishy little toddler to tall young lady in the matter of seconds. My heart!!!

I have felt this way with the boys as well, but it seems especially quick with Ivy. Maybe it’s because she IS actually growing quickly — she’s one of the tallest in her class despite being one of the youngest, she was the first in her class to lose a tooth, and because she has older brothers she’s always playing with the big kids. (Such a contrast to me as a young girl — I was the oldest child in my family so I was incredibly naive and was always a late bloomer both emotionally and physically.) Ivy will turn five next month and those five years have sped by. I can’t believe it!

Is it just me, or does time seem to move more quickly with each passing year?!  Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just slow it down a notch?

xx Courtney

Oh how I couldn’t agree more with you! My oldest turns 8 this week and she just painted her own toenails over the weekend. I’ll kind of miss doing it for her! xoxo, Annie

Wow, this post is opportune as I felt the same way yesterday when I was watching my eldest son (almost 9) cuddle my mum, suddenly he looked so grown up, I felt so sad. Please slow down time!

I know the feeling! Ivy looks absolutely darling. Can’t believe my eldest is starting to worry about his hair and attire and seems interested in chatting up the girls…he is only going to be 10 in August! But thank goodness I noticed he still packed his “little doggie” blanket in his bag for a recent sleepover. Such a precious in-between age. Must savour every moment! xxxx

My little man only just turned one and I’m equally amazed at how much he’s changed and developed in only a year! I can’t imagine what it will be like to see him as an actual little man. Like Gretchen Rubin of The Happiness Project says, “The days are long but the years are short”. Never has a truer word been spoken!

I don’t usually comment on these pages but felt compelled to in this instance. I literally JUST had this exact same feeling today. You have summed it up so perfectly. Today I snapped a quick a photo of my eldest daughter and all of a sudden, in that moment, I could not believe how grown up she was. It really made me stop and take her in. I realised somehow, she had gone from a little baby into a little girl in less than 12months (which felt like a matter of weeks). Her hair had doubled in length, she had grown a whole head taller, the dimples in her hands had softened and she’d outgrown her round toddler cheeks so much that I couldn’t see them any more. It absolutely broke my heart. I don’t think I will ever get used to how fast it goes and yes, with every passing year, it’s getting faster 🙁

I am so conscious of this and most of the time I’ll make an effort to stop and take it all in… but nevertheless sometimes it still just sneaks up and bites you on the nose!

She’s so beautiful! I can’t believe she’s not five yet! She really looks like a tall young lady (sorry, Courtney!)
My time started to move quicker after my cousins were born when I was 15. I have plenty of cousins but all of them were born when I was little so I don’t remember, but with my three little cousins I remember everything very well, even the day of their birth and I cannot believe how they are now almost seven (the twins) and five and a half (the little one). I babysit them since they were only one month old (I was 15… were my uncles mad?!?) so I spend a lot of time with them very often, but when I see they after two weeks, I see them so grown-up! I always hug and told them not to grow so fast but they do anyway, haha!
