I’ve already shared this recipe on my blog but it’s so amazing I just have to post it here as well. I’ve tested it during the hot summer days and it works like a charm. It’s natural, organic and like I said – it’s a recipe but it’s not food, in fact it’s deodorant! Yes, organic and home made from things you probably already have at home and it really, trully works. That’s something I had problems finding – a natural deodorant that actually does its job.
But if you’re skeptical you can simply try the baking soda first, since coconut oil is an ingredient that only makes it easier to apply and to help moisturize the skin and the essential oil is optional and you can easily skip it – it only makes it smell nicer.
You’ll need:
About two empty deodorant containers or small glass jars
6 tbs coconut oil
4 tbs baking soda
4 tbs of arrowroot or cornstarch?a few drops of essential oil (if you’d like to add a little fragrance)
Melt the coconut oil on a small fire and add the rest of the ingredients, mix well, wait so it cools down a bit pour into jars or containers and wait for it to cool down completely (you can put them into a fridge).
Voilà! That is all!

Polona, thank you for sharing this. Interesting and definitely worth a try. I’ll pass it along too.
Sounds amazing… but how do you apply it if you’re putting it in jars? With a flannel? Wooden spatula? Fingers? I’m assuming the latter but I’m struggling to envisage the consistency.
Zoe, I simply apply it with fingers and then use a towel to remove any excess.
Intriguing! I should try this!! 🙂 x
This is so cool! I’m really going to try this! (I’ve been buying the Aesop deodorant and my husband jokes that it must be liquid gold at the price I pay for it!!!) 🙂 xx
Oh and I’ve just recently bought Weleda Sage spray-on deodorant everyone raves about and it is AWESOME – it really really works! But it has to be Sage, I have also tried Lemon but that one doesn’t work AT ALL!
Thank you SO MUCH for this post! I made this deodorant for the first time a few weeks after it was posted and was blown away by it! I really need deodorant to work. If it doesn’t I’ll just use the stuff full of chemicals. To this point, all the natural ones I had tried did not work at all. I have now run out and have made a second batch, including a jar to give to my mom for Christmas. 🙂 this post is so good, it is totally worth reposting or making a link to it super easy to find. I know I’m gushing, but I am seriously so impressed. Thank you, again, so much!
P.S. For the essential oils I use lavender and tea tree and it smells lovely.
SO, SO GREAT! Thank you for sharing, it’s the best deodorant i’ve ever used!
This home made recipe of deodorant seems really great. Can somebody tell whether these deodorants will be the best deodorant for kids? There is no doubt that home made deodorants contain natural ingredients so they cannot harm the skin or create health problems.

In the past and even in present, people have always preferred to use the homemade products whether these are the beauty creams or deodorants. One of the biggest advantage why people prefer to use the homemade deodorants is that they have proved to be the safe deodorant for kids. Due to the involvement of the organic components, these products won’t harm the sensitive skin of the children.
