For my son’s 3rd birthday a few weeks ago we bought him Kapla blocks.  These blocks are such a simple idea — each block is made in the ratio 1:3:15 which apparently makes them ideal for building many different things.  The thing I love about them is you can make your building as simple or as complicated as you want and the possibilities of what you can make are endless.  We took them on holiday last week and my niece and newphew who are 7 and 10 also enjoyed playing with them.  Their game was to see who could make the highest tower.  You can also buy coloured blocks to add to your collection and books with construction ideas.
