I remember, years ago before I had a daughter, Esther’s daughter Sara wore her hair in little buns on the side of her head. I remember telling Esther how cute I thought it was, and I recall Esther telling me that it was the quickest hair style to do. Flash forward three years and here I am with a daughter wearing her hair in side buns. I think they look so sweet, and it is indeed so quick and easy (much easier than french braids which is my other favourite!). I recently found some pretty Liberty fabric scraps in my crafts cupboard and am now using them as ribbons, and I think it makes a sweet little touch. (Just cut out strips, about 5cm thick and tie in like a ribbon!)

It really looks adorable! Our little girl’s hair is growing terribly slow, but we’ll get to little buns eventually. I hope. 🙂
Mo,
Yes! The hair will grow. I remember it took Esther’s daughter Sara AGES to grow her hair long. And then suddenly, it was long enough for side buns! xxx
So cute !
I really love the fabric scrap idea, my daughter Ivy’s (35months) hair is finally long enough to plait and put in little buns and it’s such fun, i have tried ribbons and plaiting part of her hair and using that to wrap round the bun. I will be trying the fabric scrap idea though, we have so many fabric scraps from the circle skirts i have made for Ivy it would be nice to use them for something. I also find myself doing little plaits on my son, because his hair is gorgeously long, blonde and wavy, i would never send him out like that mind.
Did i just spot a petit bateau vest, i love their underwear, would not think of buying anything else for the kids
Haha Lily! Well spotted. That is a Petit Bateau vest. They’re really the best. How fun that your daughter’s name is also Ivy! And my Ivy is around 35 months old as well. Crazy! They should be friends of course. 🙂
I suppose your daughter does look around the same age as mine, i never realised she was called Ivy. I love the name, slightly annoyed that beyonce used it for her daughter though. Yeah we have a Herbie who is 4 and Ivy and a baby on the way and i’m trying to find a name just as nice as Ivy for her, any ideas, was thinking Posy but not sure.
Yeah Petit Bateau vests are the best, have you seen their new vintage collection, the prints are lovely especially on the knickers
I still love Sara’s hair in those little side-buns! So easy, and so cute! Ivy looks adorable xxx
I did this with my oldest daughter, (twenty years ago!) and now with my little three year old . So easy and soo cute! I raid my husbands “scraps” (which are often really beautiful silks ) as well as leftover liberty or pretty imprimé. I wish I could send you a photo, I think there is a little resemblance;( I almost always do a side part as well)
I also love french twists : just as easy and super cute.
Stacy
Stacy,
Send a photo! I would love to see!
PS – I can’t believe you have a 20-year-old AND a 3-year-old! You must be busy on so many different levels! 🙂
xx
So cute, cannot wait for Violette’s hair to be finally long enough to put little ribbons like this in her hair!
omg, I adore this…and will immediately do it to my three year old’s ringlets FIRST thing in the am!
Hi
Have you sewn the ends together to make a bow shape or jusr cut a strip.
Thanks
Michelle
Hi Michelle,
All I did was cut fabric strips, about 1-2 inches wide and about 8-10 inches long. I didn’t do any sewing at all! x
