BABY
Adorable Baby Cashmere -- from Les Tricots de Margot
Winter has hit us, dear friends. It's been snowing here in Amsterdam and temperatures are dropping below zero constantly... which annoys me majorly because my pumpkins which were out on the garden table froze! Apart from that, I find this time of year super cozy. Especially when it involves warm, woolen knits... and most especially ...

Outdoor ice baubles
I picked my son up from his kindergarten today and these were hanging on the trees outside -- what a 'cool' (get it?) idea! Yesterday, the children had chosen leaves and set them on plates covered in water with a loop of string hanging over the edge.  Overnight the ice had frozen into these beautiful ...

Kit + Lili
I have to hand it to my mother-in-law who has a knack for tracking down the most fabulous clothes for my girls.  One of my daughters practically lives in the dress pictured above from Kit + Lili and I can see why.  It's cool, comfortable and can be worn with anything - leggings and tights ...

How to bake bread
This is yet again a post that is not strictly related to children -- but I saw this video on the Guardian website and I just had to blog about it. I love baking and have been attempting to do some baking with yeast, but I truly had no idea about how it is done ...

One of the people I admire most in blogging land is fellow Dutchwoman Irene Hoofs from Bloesem and Bloesem Kids. Her sense of style is amazing, and she's also extremely kind -- even though I've never met her (she lives in Kuala Lumpur) I very much see her as a friend!  Irene has posted a ...

Plan Toys Musical Band
How cool is this Plan Toys drum set? I have two little boys who would LOVE this gift for Christmas! It's eco-friendly, non-toxic, good-looking, and helps to develop hand-eye coordination and concentration.  Plus, unlike many other kiddie drum sets, the sound which comes from these drums is very natural and realistic. A great gift for ...

A loooooong puzzle
This puzzle highly amuses my children (and me) -- not just for its cool graphics but because of its unusual shape: it's long, VERY long -- a mere 2 meters long! (That's 6.5 feet!) My 5-year-old really enjoys making it, and it looks really really cool when it's done. Available through cool Dutch design shop ...

Clothespin Ornaments
Do you remember the clothespin reindeer we made last year? This year we decided to use different clothespins (wooden ones with the round bit at the top) to make more Christmas ornaments. We ended up with a Rudolph, a soldier and a snowman. They're fun to make, and they look cute on the Christmas tree. ...

Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree
We are all officially in the holiday spirit in my house. Our tree is up, stockings are hung, Christmas music is always on, and every night we read a Christmas book before bed. Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree is one of our favourites -- it's a Christmas classic (first published in 1963) and is such a ...

Subway Line to Bedtime -- A Book of Delays
Bedtime.  Sometimes it goes off without a hitch.  Most of the time it can involve negotiations more intense and complex than an international hostage release.  I can't count the number of times that my girls have tried to bargain for "just ONE more book" or claimed to be "completely starving" as I tried to gently ...
