CRAFTS AND DIY

Paper Snowflakes

The weather is miserable here in Paris. It snowed all weekend, and it never settled down, so we didn’t even have the advantage of being able to make snowmen or partake in a snowball fight. Time for craft projects! One of the things we made this weekend are these simple paper snowflakes. They are so easy to make and always look good. You can make them out of white paper as Christmas tree decorations, but we used transparent paper and hung them on the windows.

Here is a quick guide on how to make the snowflakes:

Fold a square piece of paper diagonally so that it turns into a triangle, repeat this step so that you have 4 layers of paper. Don’t use paper that is too thick, as you will be folding the paper quite a few times and it will become difficult to cut.

Fold it again, this time aligning along the long side of the triangle.

Cut out tringles, squares or any shapes you want, cutting in from both sides of your folded star.

Now you can unfold the snowflake and it should look something like this. The beauty of this project is that not one flake will ever look like another flake, just like real snowflakes.

And here is a photo of one of my little helpers working very hard…. bad weather is not so bad after all, if you get to stay in and make things.

Enrica, I had the help of an almost 5 year old… she had fun! We crafted while her 2 year old sister was napping…

Such a coincidence!! We also made these snowflakes this weekend — they almost look identical! My 5 year old was also very handy at doing them, they turned out better even than mine!
We’re going to make some white ones tomorrow… xxx
