Add to Cart — My “can’t live without” websites

While I do long for a simpler and slower paced era, I honestly don’t know how on earth I would have survived the last few years without the godsend that is “on-line shopping.” If I can point, click and add something to a cart I feel, if only temporarily, like I just bought a few more minutes of freedom in my life.

Here are a list of my favorite on-line shopping websites for the basics — to simplify everyday life with kids in general.

1.) Children’s Shoes – Zappos.com.  I get almost all of my kids shoes from Zappos.  I am obsessed.  They deliver faster than Chinese Food Take Away and they have a massive selection.  I kid you not — I always receive a box within 24 hours and shipping is free!  They also have a 1-year return policy (unheard of!).

2.) Quality Every-Day Baby/Kids Clothes – Tea Collection, Mini Boden, Lands End. All have great cotton basics that can be worn into the ground.  These are my go-to shops for school clothing, leggings, sleepwear and warm weather supplies.

3.) Baby Stuff – Diapers.com.  This site literally was my lifeline when I was all but home bound with infant twins.  Diapers, wipes and all kids of baby supplies.  In the last year it has exploded into a one stop mega-store for all things baby-related.  I even bought a McClaren stroller here.  Plain and simple, it rocks.

4.) Kid’s Décor and Bedding – Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids, Target. All have high quality items to decorate a child’s room.  I espescially like the bedding from Land of Nod – cheap and cheerful and always on sale.

5.) Art Supplies and Educational Toys/Books: Lakeshore Learning, Scholastic Store.  Lakeshore is amazing for educational toys as well as craft supplies.  I tend to get carried away when I go on the site.  Scholastic is a good alternative to Amazon for educational children’s books.

6.) Winter Jackets and Snowsuits / Swim Supplies/ Halloween Costumes – LL Bean, Swimoutlet, Target.  Because I am just too lazy to shop for these things in person.

7.) Groceries and home delivery: FreshDirect (for groceries and frozen goods).  I like to see my food and pick out my fruit, veggies and meats but for basic groceries and frozen goods you can’t beat it.  I am still waiting for a good alternative to make a debut but so far this is really the only place to go for delivery in the city.

8.) Gifts for friends with new babies: Flowers on First,   Fill-R-Up.  Despite a corporate and somewhat cheezy looking website, the floral arrangements at flowers-on-first are always beautiful and artistic.  Fill-R-Up is a great “basket” service in the city that puts together incredible gift baskets to send for newborn babies or other events.

9.) Kids/Adult Birthday Invitations and the like – Practically Darling Designs, Paperless Post.  I have ordered invitations from Practically Darling designs for years now.  They turn things around quickly and I like the fact that it’s a small family operation.  As for Paperless Post – this seems to be the new high end answer to Evite and it looks amazing.

10.) For me………give me some ideas!

Please share any other great websites that you have!!!!

my number one is the the book depository

many of the books are cheaper than Amazon and it is FREE worldwide shipping, when you live in Japan that is a biggie! I have more problems than I care to mention with Amazon so I was really happy when I discovered this site. The service is quick too.

I agree with jo, The Book Depository is absolutely brilliant! Books are cheaper there than Amazon, eBay, etc and free shipping worldwide is unreal. For me in Australia it’s Urban Baby, The Hip Infant, Baby’s Got Style, Metro Mum and Bambini Pronto.

My no 1 website for mummy, is Bravissimo – when you have larger than average hooters its a relief to not have to drag 2 small children looking for underwear! My eldest child has even started sniggering at the size of my bra….

For birthdays, I love http://www.greenplanetparties.com (eco-friendly party supplies, and they also have stainless steel popsicle molds and ice cube trays, which are difficult to find) and http://www.dreamchildstudio.etsy.com (fabulous little handmade treasures to store in the closet for birthday party gift emergencies).

For clothing, I’ve received so many great tips on this site that it’s great to be able to reciprocate – I love http://www.redfishkidsclothing.com for bright and sweet selections at what I think is a very reasonable price (mostly girls’, but they have some unisex pants, shorts and tops). The dresses are colourful, fun fabrics with fabulous style – dressy enough for parties but all cotton and machine washable, so my kids wear them for a fabulous everyday look (and they pair well with leggings and a long sleeved shirt for the colder months, so mine stay in the kids’ closets all year).

I agree with Rachel – Bravissimo is brilliant – it was literally a lifesaver when I was living/pregnant/BF in the US.
For new baby gifts I always went to http://www.sofia bean.com.
I love the merino wool tops from minimerino.co.nz. Machine washable and not baggy on my slender child with plenty of length so no gaping at the back. I will be buying more to add to his collection. For cotton tops I like http://www.ksbkids.com, especially the stripes.
