Liberty everywhere

May 21, 2010

There seems to be a new spring feeling in the air that a lot of designers have picked up on — everywhere you turn you can see lovely Liberty style fabrics. One of my favourite shops here in Paris, Merci dedicated its whole shop to Liberty fabrics earlier this year — cute stuff for kids and grown-ups including tops, bags, aprons, handkerchiefs, and this pretty Liberty Print Suitcases.

I have also noticed that Smallable has several designers — Poppy Rose and Luco for example– doing beautiful dresses for girls out of delicate liberty patterns. And it does not have to be real Liberty fabric; my local supermarket, Monoprix, has loads of little Liberty-style bags and clothes for this season.

The ” très britishe” (very british) style is big here in France. And so it should be — have you every visited Liberty in London? It is my favourite department shop of all times, housed in a 16th century building full of beautiful things and, of course, a massive section dedicated to the lovely fabrics that are now more famous than the place they originated from.

I think it  makes sense after this cold and harsh winter — delicate dresses sprinkled with little flowers are everywhere, trying to convince the sun to stay out…

Love, love, love Liberty – so, so pretty! My mother was a big fan so I wore it as a child.
And that suitcase is just amazing!

Now that I’ve seen Liberty-like prints on everything from flip flops to plastic plates to bicycles, I’m starting to get Liberty fatigue! (Does anyone else feel this way?)
A shame, though, because I do think it’s so sweet for children’s clothes.
The actual department store is my favorite! Nowhere else like it.

I know what you mean Melissa, there is such a thing as an overdose of floral fabric, though I would love to see the floral bicycle, where did you see that?
Honestly though, over here in Paris, the shops have been full of dark, block colours all winter, that I am really happy to see a bit of a change…
The Liberty department shop is my absolute favourite too. An absolute must see if you are ever in London…

Emilie, I saw the liberty bicycles in the Liberty store here. They’re pretty cute, I must say. I do get that florals are such a welcome change for spring!

I HAVE this suit case. I bought it the week before you posted on a whistle stop tour of London. I’m expecting my 2nd girl & couldn’t resist. Good to know I’ve still got my pre mom style.
