MadeIt for unique handmade finds

madeit_header72dpi-newPacked to the rafters with local designers and craftspeople, MadeIt is a virtual craft market containing a wealth of handmade housewares and goodies. It is my go-to source when I want something unique, affordable and hand-crafted. It is similar to Etsy but supports only local Australian talent.

What I love about the site, apart from the fact that everything is handmade and local, is that it brings you, in one spot, everything you can’t buy at your local shopping mall. It takes the legwork out of shopping for those unique, handmade goodies which I  love to buy but can take me forever to look for.  And of course there is something gratifying about buying a locally made gift, supporting your local economy.

Navigating it all can be quite overwhelming but as with Etsy, persistence definitely pays off.  Currently I have my eye on these darling little bell anklets for my children by a designer called Lovestamp and I am considering this cute library bag for a friend’s little girl who starts school soon. This beautiful birth details print by Minimi for a friend’s newborn baby would be just adorable, as would this divine typographic alphabet print by Sweet William. I am also quite partial to this lovely highchair cover made for the Ikea highchair which will be perfect for my neighbour who complains over its bland appearance…I could go on forever!

I must forewarn, taking a virtual stroll down its aisles is rather addictive. I keep telling myself… one more page, just one more (early signs of internet addiction or shopping addiction….or, good grief —  both?).
