A tutu for you

tutu2.jpgLast week my girlfriend Gill and I took our girls for a week away to the English countryside — Wiltshire to be precise — for half term. I never thought I would enjoy running around in cold, old England in February but it turned out to be a great holiday. I guess kids don’t care about the cold once they are warmly wrapped up. The big advantage was that we were the only people who actually thought that a holiday in England in February was a good idea, so we never stood in a single queue and had huge arboritums and manor houses all to ourselves. We stayed in a great little cottage and the kids were so exhausted by 7 that Gill and I had great evenings, drinking wine and catching up on every single person we know.

Being dedicated moms and industrious woman we decided that we should make something during the evenings for our oldest girls. So before heading off to old blighty, I went to the Marché St Pierre to purchase tulle to make the girls a tutu.

At night we would open a very well deserved bottle of wine and get busy at tutu making. It is fool-safe — you just sew together an elastic band the size of the child’s waist and tie on strips of tulle.  They turned out great! I got this great idea from Design Mom and could not wait to make one. It is the easiest thing I have ever made and the kids loved them. Now we have a little ‘wood fairy’ tutu which reminds us of our great time in the English country side. A bit like Midsummer Nights Dream…

I love the image of a couple of friends sharing a bottle of wine in a lovely little English cottage, making tutus for their girls that are sound asleep. So very “idyllic”. Makes me want to grab my best friend, her daughter, mine and just do that.

The cottage does sound amazing! We’ve never been to Wiltshire — perhaps we should go??

I can’t wait to try this – thanks so much for the idea. Sounds like the perfect spring/easter gift for the 2 girls at our house!!

You should go! It is only 1h and 40mins away from London but feels a world away. This cottage is so perfect for a family. It has everything you could possibly need for kids, from DVDs, toys to baby monitors.

How cute, I’ve been wanting to make a tutu since I saw it on Design Mom as well! My daughter would love one…or two… 🙂

[…] A tutu for you by Emilie, because I can just feel the relaxed atmosphere in that English cottage in the evening […]
