Marvis the Monkey

February 3, 2009

monkeygreen.jpgI love toys that have a story behind them. It makes them feel so much more special.

Marvis the Monkey has already had quite a life. He was designed by a good friend of Natalie’s and mine called Jodie Fried, founder of Bholu — an Australian toy and soft furnishing design house.

He was handmade in Gujarat, a state in India famed for its artisans, who are especially known for their traditional skills in embroidery and sewing. He is made out of 100% Australian wool felt which was stitched together by hand, making every Marvis ever so slightly unique.

Jodie would like to start developing a world around Marvis. So here is a question to all of you readers out there who would like to win a Marvis: What do you think Marvis’ favourite thing to do is??

Leave a comment by Sunday the 15th, and the best idea will win a Monkey!

-Emilie

Marvis runs a banana milkshake stand under a coconut tree. His assistant is a sassy kingfisher named Deepak.
The tigers are always trying to get shakes for free.

Marvin spends his days playing shadow – following the other monkies. It´s the sheep part of his personality.

Marvis tries not to draw too much attention to it, he’s worried the other monkeys won’t want to play with him anymore, if he talks about it too much, seems too smug. His very favourite thing in the whole world is playing UNO, he’s very good.

Marvis draws caricatures of people in the local jungle clearing.

One may say that Marvis is very very lazy…. He lies down on a bed all day, taking a very long nap, but this is only because he knows that as comes the night, he will be very very busy: a little hand will grab his long arms and legs and will cuddle him all night, sleeping on top of him and stretching him as much as can be… In reality, Marvis is a dream watchman, making sure our little ones sleep tight… Sweet dreams everybody!

Hi! I think Marvis likes to make the world a little more eco-friendly which is why his is green. He travels the world spreading the good word about recycle, reuse, reduce! xo, Jen

Mavis loves to munch on mangoes while marching to her own melody. Sometimes Mavis also makes mandolins for her fellow monkeys.

Marvis’ favorite thing is being a friend to any kid who needs one.

Marvis has a twin brother, Madsen (my son). Like a 21st-century “city mouse, country mouse”, Marvis is saving his frequent flier miles to fly to Vancouver, WA to see his “city monkey” twin. As we speak, they are planning their visit together to include lots of banana eating, bath taking, train track building and Connect Four-playing. 🙂

I think Marvis is an amazing fast-bowler with those long limber arms, an all round cricket champion. Why? Because he has dual-citizenship (both Indian and Australian) – how could he not be a great cricket player?

So he plays cricket and in his spare time he paints wild and imaginitive paintings like Rolf Harris.

Marvis is a jocker and goes around the world to entertain kids at birthday parties! Only the celebrated kid can call him by wishing very hard his presence.

Marvin runs Bananaland’s gas station, Grease Monkey Motors. His closest friends, Racecar Rhinoceros, Jalopy Jaguar, and Trucker Tortoise gather there to talk cars and plan adventures together.

I think we likes to do the laundry and cook a lovely family meal at least once a week. He can do all of this in no time and with a smile on his face due to the use of his legs and arms. Mabel, his sister is a wonderful post-partum doula, just wonderful.

He should like to read magazines, eat banana splits, play ping-pong, and shop for video games.

Marvis is not only a dreamer, he offers dreams to small human beings that hug him.
He takes them in his wide arms…and off they go.
Small city people he takes along in his dreams to farms and rainforests, to discover the beauty of nature, flowers and other animals.
Small people from outside the city, he takes them along to some cities in the world to discover trains, cars and huuuuge buidings.
His favourite thing to do: give ‘dream-hugs’!

February 12, 2009

I think Marvin will give you the mother of all head massages….

February 15, 2009

Marvin’s favorite thing to do is color. He loves colors. His favorite color is green. In fact, he always uses up all the green crayons out of the box first!
While coloring, he likes to sip on a banana milkshake and he has this terrible habit of making milkshake burps…

Marvin likes to play djembé with my daughter Roxy and makes the world smile and dance!!
