Tripp Trap

Tripp TrapMy two kids seem to outgrow stuff in a blink of an eye, and the top of every wardrobe or book shelf in our flat has something stored on it! I am really getting annoyed with continuously throwing things away, or finding storage solution for things that feel like they have only been used for a nano second.

This is why I really like furniture that evolves with the child and actually sticks around for a couple of years! Which is why I am just about to purchase our second Tripp Trap by Stokke.

It has been around for ages and I guess the reason it has become such a classic is because no one has come up with a better space saving, evolving high chair which isn’t an insult to the eye. In fact all of us girls have Tripp Traps! Courtney and Esther  have neutral wood-coloured ones and Michela and I bright green and red ones!

Beautiful! So nice to see high quality design in children’s furnishings. We got a Svan high chair (http://www.svanstore.com/) which is of lovely Swedish design and it matches our 1950s kitchen beautifully. Looks nice and is very functional. Thanks for scouting out such great stuff!

My daughter has a white one. When she first started in it I wished it had a tray but that was for such a short period of time, now I love the fact she sits at the table with us. Many of our friends who have bought highchairs with trays now look at ours and wished they had got the tripp trapp. I have to agree it is the one purchase we have used the longest, and I love the fact that Charlotte knows that is her chair.

I think nowadays the tripp trapp is officially sold with a tray. I’m not 100% sure, but I think I’ve seen it somewhere!
Anyway, I too love the fact that the children are stitting at the table with us. But we did buy an inexpensive Ikea table!

I just ordered one and they don’t seem to be selling them with trays, at least not here in France. To write the post I did a bit of background reading on the Tripp Trapp and I think the idea of not having a tray is part of the Tripp Trapp philosophy. The chair was designed so that the child would be completely integrated into the family during mealtimes. A tray would stop the kid sitting at the table. This has worked for us!

You’re right – I read somewhere bout the new table top, and thought it was a tray, but it’s actually some sort of mat to protect your table.
I’ve seen (unoficcial) trays that fit the tripp trapp on the internet though, but I’ve never felt the need to get one…

I love our red tripp trapp too, and the distributor here in Australia was very accommodating and swapped out a few of the parts that I wasn’t happy with (the cross bar at the bottom had paint bubbles, and the red paint on the footrest cracked after a few wipedowns), and the replacement pieces have been perfect.

Sometimes I wish there was an optional tray too, as our dining table is out on the deck (we live in sunny Brisbane) and sometimes I just can’t get my act together and get dinner ready in time before it’s bub’s bedtime. It would be nice to put her food on the tray for her to eat with me in the kitchen while I’m cooking.

Hi Jessica! Check out Courtney’s post: http://babyccinokids.com/2009/12/06/a-tray-for-the-stokke-highchair/
She managed to find a tray for her Stokke chair and by all accounts it has been a success!
