Wrap dress, again…

March 21, 2008

wrap dressSorry that we keep repeating ourselves (Michela wrote about this a while ago), but a wrap dress is an absolute must-have if you’re going to have a baby soon. Not only is it the most comfortable thing to wear in those last few weeks of pregnancy, it is also indispensable for the first few months after you’ve had the baby! It is easy for breastfeeding, comfortable, and elegant (and conceals that belly really well)!
Michela got hers at Isabella Oliver, I got mine at Topshop, and I like the look of this one from Mothercare too.

I am looking for a dress for a wedding in a couple of weeks; currently 25 weeks pregnant, do you get hot in them? would quite like one in a pink or green…

Hmmm, I don’t know – it depends where you are I guess! It is currently snowing in the Netherlands so I wouldn’t have to worry about getting hot!
On the other hand, if the wedding is in Hawaii, you might be getting hot – but then you would probably get hot in anything you wear, right? (Do I sound jealous?)
Anyway, in my opnion, the Isabella Oliver dresses are gorgeous and would be great for a wedding.

Or, for a wedding you could be a bit more fancy and get a Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dress. They’re great too! (Unless your boobs are enormous, I suppose). That is another great option.

Diane Von Furstenberg dresses are great. I also just bought a lovely wrap dress at Petit Bateau http://www.petit-bateau.com in lovely shade of violet. They also have it in blue and green. It isn’t maternity but if it fits over my current bump, it will fit anyone!

I agree, I bought one when we had left the UK to return home. I was about 6 months pregnant and we had a booking at Chez Panisse and absolutely nothing to wear. I can’t remember the name of the shop but I bought a black wrap dress and felt fantastic in it. I only wish I could still wear it now but it’s (thankfully) far too big. Most of my friends are done with babes but I wish I had someone to pass it on to.

I found this one at gap ($59.50, but everything goes on sale at gap!):

Seems like it could be dressed up or down, esp with a cute pair of shoes! I can see this dress being a staple.

Thanks for stressing this little dress.

Katie, if you still need a dress for that wedding, I would shop around on http://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/bridal_shops_dresses.html and see if you find a nice wrap dress in any of those stores. If you narrow your search to local stores, you can drive out and buy it without worrying about rush shipping. Green and pink are hard to find on a dress like that together– maybe try just one solid color and use the other color for accessories?
