Letter to Pampers (I)

January 26, 2008

Dear people at Pampers,

I have been using your products continuously for 2 years and 8 months now; first for my baby girl, who I potty-trained not long after the birth of my son (forgive me, but 2 babies in your products proved to be a financial disaster). Given the fact that I’ve been a loyal customer all this time, I think it is safe to say that I am definitely a Pampers fan.
However, I still wanted to write to you with a couple of thoughts.

Last weekend I was staying with a dear friend in Milan, who gave birth to a beautiful baby girl 6 weeks ago. Such a sweet little creature, how soft and sweet-smelling! However, the moment the little angel started filling her nappy, it took me (with shock) back to 8 months ago when my son was that little. How easily one tends to forget…
Why is it that the majority of tiny babies’ poo ends up outside the nappy instead of in there? For both my babies I remember mustard coloured substance all over their little backs – sometimes up to their neck and even in their armpits!
Needless to say, their little onesies would be covered as well – taking them off over their heads without ending up with poo in their ears is definitely a skill! (How on earth other mums get the stains out of the clothes is a miracle to me – maybe this is why all these yellow baby clothes exist in the first place).
I’ve had situations like this in airplanes, parks (mid-winter) and restaurants, and I can tell you – it’s not pleasant. I can remember a pooing situation in a certain restaurant in London where I was having lunch with another dear friend. I was in the exceptional situation that I had forgotten to bring a spare outfit for my baby, so he ended up completely naked, just a nappy, in his pushchair (again, mid-winter).
Thankfully I’d brought enough wipes to handle the situation. This before-mentioned girlfriend once took her newborn to baby cinema. Poo explosion happened – she had to change the little boy in the half-dark, on the floor, in between the seats and ended up running out of wipes. She had to ask the surrounding, and totally unknown mums (who were literally looking down on her already) for more wipes – that’s how bad it was.

My question to you is the following: why isn’t there a variety of Newborn Pampers that have an extra high back, possibly going up al the way to the armpits (and not giving way to a perfect fit around the legs – we don’t want any spillage there either)! I realize this will look sort of silly, but I am sure it will it make our lives a lot easier!

I do hope you take my suggestions seriously. And I’m hoping to hear back from you.

Sincerely,

Esther

This is why the wrap-style or side-snap onesies were essential for my little ones! The organic ones from Under the Nile are great. The Babycenter store carries them

Yes, those onesies look cute… And they come in yellow too! 😉

Another tip I picked up from Parent Hacks… slide the onesie down instead of going up and over.
