I know Paris is well-known for being an expensive city, especially when it come to clothes. However, it is possible to find some bargains, especially come the new year: the winter sales start on the today!!
But it isn’t only during the sales time that you can find bargains. We also have a few local high street shops that have a great selection! Here is a list of a few places to visit next time you are here in Paris or in other French cities:
•It may sound strange to buy your kids clothes at a supermarket, but the Monoprix supermarket chain has a great range of baby clothes called Bout’Chou and CFK for older kids that seriously can rival any design brand. (Unfortunately their website is terrible, so you need to go in person to see what is available.) A lot of my kids’ clothes are from here. Super cute tunics, trousers, dresses and knitwear makes these a hit with a lot of Parisian mothers.
•Du Pareil Au Meme, otherwise known as DPAM, has now become an international brand, but if you cannot find it in your country of origin, do check it out! It has a great range of clothes, from newborn to pre-teenagers. The shops are often grouped by three, one catering only for newborns (clothes and all equipment), one for all age ranges and one specializing in shoes…
•A little shop I love called Alice A Paris has some lovely items at very reasonable prices. The collections are very classic and practical (The little dress in the photo is from there). The shop is in the 6th arrondissement and you can also buy online.
•Another place worth checking out if you like classic clothes is a shop called Natalys, which specialises in baby things up to the age of three. The same group runs a chain of shops called Sergent Major for older kids. I don’t always find what I want in there, but it is definitely worth a look if you happen to be over in France.
•Last but not least, one of my other favorite shops is called Vertbaudet. I mostly order off their website, but they do have some shops scattered around Paris, and all over France for that matter.

I visited Monoprix last time I was in Paris and found some great stuff for my kids. Some of the new baby items reminded me of Petit Bateau!
Will def check out the other shops when in Paris!
Another great one is Z (http://www.z-enfant.com/). Their stuff for babies up to 2 years old is very cute and in the same price range as DPAM but more stylish, I think.
DPAM is very good for basics though. They also have a shoe shop in the 6th arrondissement

DPAM- I was disappointed with the quality and I think the baby collection is cuter than for ” older” kids
I like DPAM, but I agree for older kids you have to browse to find the good pieces.

I’m a french mum and I agree with you. I try to find the same kind of clothes in London (price/quality) but I can’t find anything except gap, Zara, H&M. Have you got any idea to help me ?
I have found some nice things at John Lewis, but you have to be lucky… Vertbaudet also ships to London….

If you’re feeling sporty, patient and brave, you can find very, very good deals at Sympa in the 18th: Petit Bateau t-shirts and onesies for 1EU and clothing from Natalys, Sergent Major, and DPAM at next to nothing.
Michele, I knew I had forgotten something, thanks reminding me of Sympa. I also often find Petit Bateau for 1 Euro at the Bastille Market on Thursday mornings on boulevard Richard Lenoir… Katell, I will think about some good places in London, maybe Courtney and Mo have sole ideas!
For petit bateau on sale in paris, you will find a much better choice and supply than Sympa at this store at the guy moquet metro stop (LPB: 48-49, rue Guy Moquet) — they also sell numerous baby items at a discount (major brands like beaba, maclaren, etc.). the onesies are about 3 euros and pyjamas less than 10 for example.

Hi Claudine, The Bout’Chou brand is available from one of our main supermarkets. Monoprix.fr (the equivalent of Marks and Spencers in the UK). I don’t know if they would export aboard?
