We’ve been staying at my family’s beach house on Bainbridge Island this week and, due to the stormy weather, spending lots of time inside. We’ve been making soups, baking cookies, reading books, knitting, and simply enjoying this cosy season while we have it (it’s the first time we’ve experienced autumn in two years, and we’re making the most of it).

The girls have been staying cute and cosy in their merino wool long johns from US company Chasing Windmills. They wear them to bed each night and keep them on during the day layered under their normal clothing. These are some of the softest wool long johns I’ve ever felt, and the girls clearly agree as they won’t take them off!

Chasing Windmills was started by Sarah and JP – a husband and wife team — who have set out to create super soft merino wool clothing in pretty, neutral colours. In addition to the cute long johns, I’ve got my eye on the sweet snuggle suits for the baby. Those little suits are perfect for night-time baby changing when you can’t be bothered with buttons or zips.

Gorgeous girls in those pjs! Love autumn and al the cosy activities. My 2 year old daughter and I are doing the same here in the UK, collecting conkers and baking, just love it. Am in awe of all that you achieve with your 4 children when sometimes I struggle with just one. Did you always know you would have such a big tribe and did you ever worry how you would feel about each new addition? X

Hi Emma,
Thanks for your sweet comment and question.
Both Michael and I come from big families, so we always knew we’d have a big family… but I don’t think either of us ever thought we’d have five kids! It surprises us still to say ‘five kids’ out loud! 🙂
If it makes you feel any better, I do remember having one child and feeling very overwhelmed and wondering how anyone ever had more than one child!! I thought of my mum who had five kids and I wondered how on earth she did it. And then…. with each child… I’ve just adapted to the new normal. It’s pretty incredible what we can fit onto our plates — whether it’s one child or five! x

Thanks for the reply Courtney, currently thinking about expanding the family and was just thinking how I could adore another as I do our daughter. So tough to try and envisage it all ! Looking at your lifestyle and travels and the bond you have with your four ( or should I say five ) children makes me think that I could have a little tribe. X

These are gorgeous! I definitely love the fact that they are so soft. Sometimes long johns can be so itchy, so especially for the little ones, this is a must. And I must say, I’m a sucker for the matching jams! Enjoy the time with your family 🙂
