Bastida — clever clothes that grow with your child

bastida2I remember reviewing Bastida over four (!) years ago, and writing about how much I liked the concept behind this new brand from Barcelona. The idea of Bastida is that all of the clothes in store are adjustable by way of clever zippers, buttons and strings, so they can fit smaller size to bigger size — one piece, good for several years, and several children.

Alicia from Bastida recently contacted me again and I had a peek at her now expanded collection. It is still so innovative and clever, and so cute too! There are now pretty tie-up dresses, cool zip up hoodies, and ingenious onesies that fit newborn babies until they’re one! (I love this photo of Polona‘s baby boy Talan, featuring the Bastida onesie.)

It is so nice to see brands developing and companies expanding over the years. Definitely one of the highlights of our job! I can’t wait to see how Bastida is going to develop further…

I’m not too keen on this concept. I would get bored of seeing my child in the same clothes for years and years. The benefits of this type of clothing is good for parents on a budget but even then I think they would get bored of the same outfit on their child. The beauty of having children is to see them growing out of old clothes not just the same ones.

Hi Aman, thank for your comment! I actually love to see the same piece on my children for a longer time, styled differently to compliment the season or occasion. I feel we live in such a ‘disposable’ society, with cheaply produced clothing that is easily discarded off when we’re tired of it. To me, it’s important to recognise the value of clothes, and to cherish them for a long(er) time, and to aim to be durable and pass that aspiration on to my children. To me, Bastida’s concept fits perfectly in this thought. xxx

I bought a hoddie for my toddler 2 years ago and I love the fact he is able to wear it for a long time and I’m doing my bit to save planet resources. The quality is great and it’s beautiful to see he’s growing with it!

I actually get disappointed when my baby girl outgrows her adorable little clothes. I, of course, have my own favorites and I remember being sad when I couldn’t get it on her anymore! I would love to have some that I don’t have to discard so soon after buying them. Babies grow so fast and clothes can get to be so expensive! Great idea!

Can anyone tell me what happened to Bastida? I’ve tried accessing their website and emailing them, but everything seems shut down. This seems like such a perfect idea, and I can’t find anything similar elsewhere. Help please!

I think Bastida closed down — it’s such a pity!
